It’s okay. It happens. The solution is exactly the same as what got you there in the first place. RNY gave you a good start and a suite of tools, but YOU got yourself there. Dust off your old playbook and get at it. I know you can do it.

Regain happens! It's good you are addressing it now, and have relatively little weight to lose.

I suggest looking into some of the new drugs that are being used off label for weight loss, like Mounjaro and Ozempic

Good luck!

if you've stopped tracking your intake, start with that. See how much you're eating. If it's too much, go back to the basics (not all the way back to liquids or purees, but the whole deal with Protein first, then non-starchy vegetables, and then, if you have room, a piece of fruit or small serving of complex carbs). And yes, as sillykitty said, there are drugs that can give you a jump start to help you get back on track again, but I"d probably start first with tracking and then going back to the way you were eating the first year or two and see if that solves it.

Is it an option to call your surgeon / team and request a consultation? I know it has been 4 years for you, but my team said they would see me back for a free consult even years from now if ever needed. This is a good business strategy, so you go with the same team if you need a repeat procedure. After all, these weight loss surgeons pay a lot of money for advertising. I have often wondered what their cost-per-lead is, when I see their ads online and on TV...but I digress.

Thank you for the input, unfortunately I have moved across country since then and hooking back up with my original team isn't really plausible at the moment. :)

Unfortunately I can't take these medications as I have reactive hypoglycemia and these medications cause a drop in blood sugar.:( thank you for the suggestion though. [emoji3526]

I can only speak to Mounjaro, but it actually doesn’t cause a drop in blood sugar, that’s not how it works. Hypoglycemia is only a risk if you’re also taking Insulin Secretagogues or Insulin.
Good luck with however you choose to tackle regain!

I am 20 years out and have experience just about everything that comes with having weight loss surgery. I am also a pharmacist and have been like a community resource for the docs in my circle. It was a struggle to keep the weight off and to get back on track after regain. sw 296 lw: 126 regain weight 177 cw 145-150. But it is possible.

Recently, I've received some messages asking how I got rid of the unwanted weight I gained to now have a fuller life without a negative body image.

I gave a few lectures at community events and gave some presentations with support groups. Considering making a video about all I know about WLS ,free to the community. Maybe try to make it available for continuing education units.

No one wants irrelevant info, I want to present something people would want to hear. Would anybody be interested in this? I hope YES

Answer "YES" if I should make the video

YES…I’m going on 5 years post and have had 50 lbs of regain. For me it was significant increase of alcohol during Covid, stress, and inactivity. I weighed in on January 1 and was NOT happy with the number. I’m doing dry January, have exercised 6 days per week and have gone back to the basics. I’ve only lost 1.2 lbs which is very discouraging. I’m almost questioning if I have metabolism issues.

Either way, I feel GREAT getting back on track. I’ve upped my Water, have been eating Whole foods, and am moving my body again. I’m just hoping I can get the weight off!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
