HOMEBABE 0 Posted December 18, 2007 HI EVERYONE I HAD THE LAP BAND SURGERY TWO YEARS AGO. I LOST ABOUT 50 LBS AND SO FAR NO MORE. BUT WHAT I DID GET IN THE LAST TWO YEARS WAS KIDNEY FAILURE. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE CAN CONNECT THE LAP BAND TO KIDNEY FAILURE?
jc2008 0 Posted December 18, 2007 All the known causes of kidney failure are problems you would have when you were overweight. Sounds to me like you would have had the kidney failure from past problems with or without the lapband. I guess getting the lapband was just a little too late to save you from those problems. But it will save you from a lot of other problems down the line.
kirajh 0 Posted December 19, 2007 I hope it isn't connected to the lapband. Four years ago, my kidneys stopped functioning and i was on Dialysis for three weeks and then miraculously they started working again and now they are working at 100%. I've only been bnded about 6 months though. Kari banded 7-16-07 dr. Ortiz down 54 lbs, lots more to go
KTDidWhat 0 Posted September 8, 2010 I'll be curious to see what I find in my research connecting the 2. I had my surgery in May 2010 and have lost 65 lbs to date. This past week I've been experiencing horrible kidney pain and even bruising on my back.
stargate713 0 Posted September 8, 2010 I'm and RN and former dialysis Nurse. The 2 biggest causes of kidney failure are diabetes and high blood pressure, and the combination of the two. Also there are genetic forms of kidney disease and some ethinic groups have a higher pre-disposition. I can not see how the lapband surgery could have any direct relationship to kidney failure unless you had some complication or infection during your surgery. KT.....I hope you have seen your doctor, because you may have a kidney infection. Women are prone to UTI's and if left untreated can progress into a kidney infection which can be very serious if left untreated.
Fullprice309 0 Posted September 8, 2010 Just a shot in the dark here, but I have heard if your Protein intake is high and your not drinking enough Water you can have kidney problems....with or with out the band.
stargate713 0 Posted September 8, 2010 That is true, high protein/low carb diets have been associated with an increased risk of kidney stones
Jachut 487 Posted September 9, 2010 It'd have to be a pretty extreme diet - although purposely putting yourself in to ketosis and staying there seems a pretty risky thing to do for weight loss. Maybe it might tip you over the edge if you already have an underlying kidney problem though, high Protein diets are not recommended if that's the case.
