ok i know that this is bad bad bad but lately i've been in the mindset that this is my last christmas as a fat girl and i should eat EVERYTHING. like seriously, everything. and it seems like there's waaaay more stuff to eat this year. Cookies, candy, fudge, craziness. i keep telling myself that i'm just getting it all out of my system before i start "the path to band-dom" in january. i know what i'm doing is well, something i shouldn't be doing. anyone else do this?

Not really...but I did eat more...just didn't stuff myself sick.

I did, however, eat like a total stinking pig two days before surgery...drank like a fish also...It was my 31st. birthday. The following day I had to be on Clear liquids...let me tell you....a wicked hangover with nothing to soak it up...NOT MUCH FUN!!!

What you are going through is normal...I would (and did) make a pact with yourself that you will NOT gain any weight...

Good luck.

Just because you are banded doesnt mean that next xmas you cant eat stuff. You will just eat less of it. So don't get too freaked out over 'last suppers'.

My doctor said the most important thing is not to gain weight before the surgery.

But even with the band you can still eat next xmas, just not as much...

like some poster said on here (cant remember which thread):

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.

A lot of us had those feelings, but I would recommend resisting them. Treat yourself to the things you enjoy in small quantities. The sooner you start learning the new way of doing things, the easier it will be down the road. Best of health!

Fudge? Did someone say Fudge? I decided not to make any this year because it is too tempting.

With me, I wanted a large steak and lots of it for my "last supper". I still find that I miss being able to eat as much as before. But am finding that I taste my food more now than before because I eat so slowly.

I didn't have the last meal syndrome, and did not worry about what I wouldn't be able to have post-op. The mindset changed for me. I am now post-op, and excited that I don't like burgers anymore. As for holiday food, I got a normal spoonful size of a lot of different stuff and picked at everything. Then I got a decent fill and I can't eat much. As I go along, I don't feel a loss that I can't eat like I could.. I am not worried about Xmas Eve dinner, Xmas Morning B'fast, and Xmas day dinner (whew).. I'll find something to pick at, I'll get full.. and when you're full you don't want to keep eating, so.. that's that. I never got 'full' pre-band. So I'd binge and binge and binge some more. Ok, there is one thing I wonder if I can eat.. only because I've been craving it since last X-mas. DH's mom makes some northern recipe (they're from up north) that I thought looked so disgusting, but they made me try it.. hardboiled eggs pickled in beets.. so they're red and I don't like beets. I finally tried them and they were awesome.. I am hoping I can eat a piece of it without having an episode. I planned to stick to safe foods (squishy and wet) to avoid vomiting at DH's parents house.. but I am going to eat a piece of the red eggs!!

I am scheduled for my surgery on Dec 31st and I am going crazy eating nachos as one of my last meals. I had them about four times lately. I was so shocked when I went to the doctor today and had actually lost 3 pounds. I had my rib eye

the other night. It was so good!!! Your not alone, but I do think we will be able to eat some good foods in the future but in much smaller portions. I start my Clear Liquids on Dec 25th.

Good luck to all.

Hi scruffy,

I am in that BOAT that GRAVY BOAT that is...I don't usually have a HUGE appetite but since I started on this journey I just can't seem to help myself. I KNOW I will still be able to eat the things I like and yet...I feel some sort of remorse. Oh, maybe this is a physiological response..not a good bye to the food but a good bye to this glutonous lifestyle...makes you wonder

I seem to be doing the same thing!! I am trying to change my thinking that this is my last meal. I am going for wings one more time though. My daughter acutally pointed it out to me that I am eating everything under the sun and WILL be able to enjoy food AFTER the band is put in.

So now I am doing the modified pre-op diet the surgeon gave me.

I originally thought I had "last supper syndrome" as well. But now I'm not sure. I made a post about this a couple weeks back I believe it was. I don't have my date yet (hoping to find out when I go to my appt this Thursday, fingers crossed) and I am definitely eating anything and everything in sight as well. Work is especially bad this time of year as I work at a Manufacturing company and our suppliers bring goodies and Cookies and chocolates by the truckloads. I think I've realized that it's not "I have to eat this now because I will never eat it again" syndrome but more of a "I can eat this now because what does it matter I'm going to be having a Lapband soon anyways" syndrome. WHICH IS BAD! Did anyone have that syndrome? Over the holidays I will be away at familys but I've decided as soon as I get back I'm starting a slimfast shake two meals a day and lean cuisine and salad or something for dinner until I have my surgery. Even if my date's not for another month and a half. I already have one slimfast for breakie - blend vanilla powder, skim milk, vanilla extract and some berries up in my Miracle Blender (same deal as Magic Bullett blender but cheaper) and drink it on my drive to work.

I need to give myself a good swift kick in the arse and screw my head on straight!:help:

that's exactly how i feel! like "i don't care if i gain a few pounds. i'm starting my dr. diet next month anyway." but once i'm done eating i regret it. not too much. but enough.

I am being banded in January, no pre op diet required and I have a similar attitude to Trish and Ang especially with holidays around! I will be on vacation for a week until Jan 2nd where I know food and alcohol will be plentiful so I have pledged to myself that come Jan 3rd it all ends and I focus on eating well, making that change from 2 weeks before surgery.

I think most do it before they were banded. I did before I was banded. I call it "last supper syndrome" and I ate a lot of last suppers (and breakfasts and lunches and snacks).

The downside is that it's more weight for you to lose. I gained 20lbs in 3 months pre-op and I think that only now if I hadn't gained those lbs, I would be 20lbs lighter on the scale!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
