Belly button pain and discharge.

Recommended Posts

Hello Community!

I noticed about five days ago that I'm having pain in the inner right side of my belly button and then today noticed a slight discharge inside. Has anyone else experienced this before? I'm seven months post-op. I'm concerned I might have an ulcer.

Thanks!

I have never heard of this but I found this on health grades.com. It says “recent” surgery I’m not sure that yours would be considered recent but may be worth a call to ask your team just in case. Either way pain and discharge usually indicate something is going on so I would see a doctor

Surgery

Abdominal surgeries may pose a risk for potential infection near or in the belly button. These surgeries include umbilical hernia repair or laparoscopic surgery that involves incisions near the belly button.

If you had recent abdominal surgery and notice liquid or pus draining from your belly button, it may be a sign of an internal infection. Contact your doctor right away to receive prompt treatment

I would reach out to your surgeon, just to be safe.

When I was much bigger, my belly button would almost get what seemed like a yeast infection. Not to the point of medical attention or meds. But it would get red an irritated and have like a discharge or something. That is the best I can explain it. I would make sure it was extra dry after showers and lay while basically holding it open and allow it to completely air dry and it would go away in a day or 2.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
