Recommended Posts

Ok this is my first post. I was banded Decemebr 15th, 2.5 days ago. Still a little sore but so far not to bad. The physical part is easy, it is the mental part Im struggling with. I love to eat and not being able to is tough.

Yes, giving up one of our best friends, food, is very very hard and there is a new thread here where the recent bandee (3 days) was depressed and tearful. (I know, guys DON'T cry!)

I will tell you what I told her, this is a trade-off for a longer healthier life filled with tons of quality, versus all of the health and social issues we faced prior to our tool.

So yes, you can "grieve" for the loss of our comfort, but once your pounds begin to disappear, you will totally forget our 'friend' of today.

Good luck to you... :)

I got banded couple weeks ago and it does get a little bit better... also dont expect to be loosing all this weight at the start cause you are banded. For most people the good portion of the weight lost dont happen till couple fills are done to find your sweet spot.

Anyways Congrats... and good luck.

You are not giving up your food. You need to realize that. You are giving up the QUANTITY and PORTIONS of the food that you considered normal. BIG difference. You can eat ANYTHING that can get down, you just have to eat it in sensible amounts. My doctor keeps saying "This is NOT a diet. This is NOT a diet. You can eat anything. You have to eat it sensibly." There are no bad foods...only bad portions. Since I have been banded I have had "death by chocolate" at a restaurant, and all the other things I had pre-band. Difference is I have small amounts and I don't have it every day, every hour. You can eat that hamburger (if you can eat bread eventually)....but what you can NOT do is grab it with both hands and cram it in your mouth and wolf it down in 15 seconds flat...which the the typical MO of us obese people. Lean people eat all the same things WE do....but we just need to learn to eat it the WAY they do.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. Today went easier. I am not as sore and I discovered a Protein Shake that helped me right there.

How do you all fix those things how much do you consume at a sitting? I had a bit to much tonight. I didnt get sick but I did get past comfortable. ill do better tommorrow and pour some into a seperate contaner for later consumption.

I think you look great! My first surgery last thursday was postponed, now it is scheduled for this thursday Dec. 20th. My emotions are all over, I know what you are going through! I Love food, as well and this is a new challenge that I am hoping will help my health be much better! Hopefully you can feel this way too. And I think how I love my steak, Yes, and to get some of it I will suck on a couple bites later on through my recovery. Remember, you can do this, think positively!

Wishing you the Best!

Deb

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
