Finally got a date!!!

Surgery is in two weeks!! It's been a HELL of a road getting here and now it's finally coming!! I don't know whether to laugh or cry lol.

Anyone have anytips on what to bring to the hospital? Or good things on Amazon to get?

almost everything i brought to the hospital i did not use lol. tho when you get home a walking cane will help a ton especially when getting up and sitting down. A recliner is a must as most are not able to sleep i a bed for a while after surgery. It took me about a month before i could lay dow.

Here's my pack list. I don't think I used the tablet at all, but the rest was useful. Most of the time, you'll either be sleeping, walking, taking meds, talking to nurses & doctors, etc. I had very little "free time".

• Driver’s License and Insurance Card
• Paperwork, including instructions and medication list
• CPAP
• CPAP Cord
• CPAP Mask & Hose
• Glasses and case
• Small packed toiletries bag
• Cell Phone
• Cell phone charger
• Tablet
• Tablet Charger
• Headphones
• Earplugs (Hospitals are noisy!)
• Robe (Good for covering your backside on your frequent walks in the halls.)
• Sunglasses – Leave in Car

Note that I didn't pact separate clothes. I just re-wore what I wore to the hospital.

To add to @SpartanMaker’s list,

• spare knickers or disposable underwear - diarrhoea is a real possibility & attacks can be extremely sudden.
• your own pjs, soap/shower gel. I found putting on my own pjs & using my own shower gel much nicer & sort of soothing than wearing the hospital gown & using their awful anti bacterial soap stuff
• all your prescribed medication in unopened boxes/bottles.

Actually I know three others who also have had surgery (different weight & ages) & none of us needed a cane, stomach binder or couldn’t sleep in our bed from day one so I don’t know about ‘most’ needing those sorts of support equipment. Think it’s very individual. Save your money unless you actually need them.

I had really dry lips so a chap stick was a must for me. I also used a lot of wipes. I had diarrhoea and used them a lot

I’m post op bypass day 5. I was in hospital one night. I slept 12 hours from surgery time. I have never been that far under for that long. I never used my iPad at all. Bring athletic slides to wear home. I used my chapstick and fresh underwear. No bra as one of the incisions is at a bad spot. I brought ear plugs but I’m Used to them. I had all kinds of things prepared and needed none of it. I came home next day and am a stomach sleeper. That was a bust but was able to gingerly put a pillow under me on third night. I have slept in bed since.

Revision from vsg to rny here. Yet again, I didn't use anything. I had surgery, slept, woke up, walked around, slept again, went home first thing in the morning. I basically brought a baggy dress that just slides over my head, comfortable walking shoes and a small pillow to hug, just in case of a bumpy ride home. Of course, I always bring phone, wallet with ID... etc.

Normal hygiene products, comfy clothes. Sounds silly but a sippy cup. Helps learn to drink

You don’t need a lot at the hospital at all. You will need to take a shower the morning just before you leave and will change as soon as you get there so you can wear the same clothes home you wear there with different underclothes. I brought my normal toiletry kit although I left the next day and couldn’t shower yet anyways (I washed my face and brushed my teeth but that was about it). I bought an extra long phone charging cord on Amazon and was very glad to have that for my phone and iPad because outlets are sparse and not close to the bed. I also brought my earbuds and that was sorta nice to use to block out all the noise when I tried to sleep. Ooh and mens pajama pants (or just big comfy ones) to wear under your hospital down unless you want to change into pajamas. I had a heart monitor in addition to my IV so I didn’t change completely. Just slipped on the bottoms to cover my bottom when I walked the halls.
