Bending over

Recommended Posts

Just a quick question. How long does it take for it to quit hurting to bend over? I have been banded for 11 days and I know it is going to hurt for awhile. I'm just wondering a ball park figure. 1 month, 6 months, a year?

I can feel a lump at my port incision and I'm sure that is swelling and healing which is good. I know it will hurt until that happens.

So, how long until you could bend over without thinking about it, and how long until you really couldn't tell it was there? I'm hoping soon it will quit hurting when my little angel kicks at me while I'm changing her diaper :)

TIA,

Steph

Probably a couple of months. Your port is the first thing to hurt and the last thing to heal. I'm a year out and I still get port twinges here and there.

You really shouldn't be bending from the waist anyway, you should be bending from the knees. What a weird kind of reminder, a port! :)

The lump is likely scar tissue and will probably go away after a few weeks. Then as you lose weight, assuming you carry a lot in your belly, you will be able to feel your actual port.

I am 11 days out too. My port hurts a tiny bit when I bend too. It is not that bad. My 1 year old loves to crawl around on me and I have been guarding that area a lot. I have a hard spot there which I am assuming is scar tissue. It is a lot easier to bend now than it was last week. I figure it can only get better from here...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
