sweetpina 3 Posted October 18, 2022 Hi everyone, I have scheduled with Dr Gonzalez at Oasis of Hope in Nov for gastric sleeve but I am not finding info online of him at all other than Oasis of Hope website. Feeling nervous and hoping to learn as much about anyone else's experience with Oasis of Hope Bariatrics as possible. Also have seen lots of good reviews by members about Dr Jalil Illan at HospitalBC. Now I am considering should I switch? I was able to find him on https://conacem.org.mx/ but not able to find Dr Francisco Gonzalez from Oasis of Hope. If you have any resources to assist with research, I would truly appreciate thank you! Alex Brecher 10,515 Posted October 19, 2022 I do not recommend using Hospital BC. Dr. Jalil Illan Fraijo is the surgeon currently running the hospital, and he, along with surgical coordinators Bill Yanez and Stacy Eckel, embezzled a lot of my money. You have many great options in Mexico. Don’t use a dishonest surgeon like Dr. Jalil Illan Fraijo.

They’ve worked with some not great surgeons over the years so be careful who you use.

I also worry about after care as my PCP warned me doctors wont want to touch me in US because they are afraid of a lawsuit.

Many PCPs are open to their patients having surgery across the border these days. Have you discussed your decision with them?

Have you discussed your decision with them? I have! I actually just saw my PCP today and he said he has multiple patients that come back fine but also have had a few with complications. He says he does not recommend solely because of how doctors won’t want to treat me for complications due to fear of liability. He said to really do my research and make sure its good qualified doctor and facility. I also stated I am relatively healthy, have handled other surgeries (lipo) recovery well no complications. So I have confidence in my own body to recover post-op and he agreed that does factor in my overall risk tolerance. All in all, I found this community very helpful in my research process and truly appreciate your feedback as well.

Dr. Illan removed my lap band and converted me to an MGB a few years ago. I had a leak after two days, lost tons of blood, and required multiple transfusions. Dr. Illan then converted me to a complete gastric bypass in Mexico. A little over 3 years ago, I had a lower bowel blockage related to Dr. Illan's surgeries. I was rushed to a local hospital in Long Island, NY. A bariatric surgeon performed a gastric bypass reversal. It took over 6 hours in the OR. They treated me even though they knew I had my surgeries performed in Mexico. Regardless, you should do lots of research and select an excellent and reputable surgeon. Good luck! I did not realize you literally were a patient of Dr Jilal Illan. Thanks again for all the knowledge and experience share. It was invaluable! 1 Alex Brecher reacted to this
