I know it's normal, but it's still SUPER annoying!!

Recommended Posts

I'm really ready for my hair to stop shedding!!! I'm doing all the things I'm supposed to, and I know it's normal and will eventually stop. But I really wish it would hurry up and get to it. I'm 5 1/2 months post op, and I started shedding around 3 months out, so I know I still have a ways to go. But OMG my hair just gets EVERYWHERE!!! Couch, bed, pillows, shower, floor, my clothes, EVERYWHERE. So, so annoying. My NP at the surgeon's office said I've lost so much weight in such a short amount of time that she's not surprised that I'm shedding like crazy. I know that, and I know it'll stop. But honestly, I'm shocked I'm not bald!!! Ugh....

I didn't notice it as much when I had a pixie cut. Before I was forever untangling my very long hairs from the hoover and cleaning my hairbrush. It was bad from 4 to 8 months out

Sorry you are going through this and I know it sucks. I guess I'm lucky and unlucky at the same time. My shedding has seriously decreased so I only had a short time of losing a ton of hair. But due to massive shedding in the years before surgery I see more scalp now (and I mean a lot). Its getting harder to disguise it. I wanted a cute pixie cut but scared my scalp will show so I'll be off to the hairdresser for a consult soon.

The good thing is there will be new growth so all we can do is wait this out and per my Derm make sure Protein, Water and Vitamin D levels are good.

My hair was down to my butt, but once it started shedding, I cut it to just touching my shoulders. It's actually pretty cute, I like it. I also use volumizing Shampoo and conditioner in hopes that it'll hide it a bit. Not sure if it actually helps, but it makes my brain feel better about it lol I have PCOS so I was already used to shedding, but this is next level. Can't wait for it to stop.

I am leaving my hair long until after surgery because of the shedding lol right now it is most of the way down my back. I wear it in a bun a lot but I am going to enjoy it while I can!! Plan is to chop it off 3-4 months after surgery to my shoulders. I already shed hair a LOT (my husband doesn’t know how I am not bald) so really wonder how bad it’s going to be for me

I lost about 75% of my hair between months 2 and 4. You could see my scalp. I ended up cutting it VERY short (somewhere between a buzz cut and a pixie cut) to save my vacuum and plumbing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
