I’m 1.5 years post op. Lost over 100 pounds. I’m starting to notice a lot of joint paint and muscle weakness. My knee gave out the other day. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I have a weird question for you. Any chance you recently started taking a statin? My FIL (78) was in a trial where they were given statins as a preventative measure... within a week, his knee gave out and he had muscle weakness (mostly in the one leg). He stopped immediately, and it has taken several months to get back to normal.

No, I’ve had no changes as far as medication

People do loose muscle mass after surgery. Especially with the rapid weight loss.

Do you exercise? That could help? Even just some mild resistance bands?

Talk to your doctor? I am sure they can help!

When was the last time you had your labs checked? Are you taking your Vitamins? Meeting your Protein goals?

I have to say I have failed at exercising big time. I work such late hours and have such a long commute by the time I get home I cook and shower and head to bed. I’ve been taking my Vitamins but I’m deff sue for labs

Don't feel bad. I fail in the exercise field too! I want to, but have no motivation when focusing on everything else.

I feel myself getting weaker, I need to build back up my strength. I will eventually, but need to find the motivation NOW.

I would go to your family dr so they can run some tests but ask them to do your labs for your Vitamins too. I am the same way with exercise. I can motivate myself to do just about anything in the world except for exercise. I hate it. And I can notice that I am getting a little weaker each year so I know I need to start before it gets too out of hand.

I agree. While this is probably just something like a Vitamin deficiency, there are any number of other causes. You need to be screened for those to rule out anything more serious.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
