Another concern about pain (right side)

Recommended Posts

I have pain in my right side (near where the port is) when I sit. If I am sitting in a recliner where I keep my abdomen perfectly straight, I'm fine, but if I sit in any other kind of chair, even sitting up straight, I have a good deal of pain. Has anyone else experienced this? It doesn't feel like the port pain after surgery. It radiates from my right side around to my back. I am 5 weeks out from surgery.

I also have pain in my left side, but I can't tell if it's from the band, nerve, or maybe a muscle ache. I have not overeaten, and I have never PB'd or vomited, nor have I been nauseous. It usually starts a couple of hours after I eat. Is this pain from gas?

I don't know if this is normal post-op or not. I am very active with a toddler, who I lift and carry a lot during the day, I have a physical job, and I have been exercising a lot more than I was 5 weeks ago. Not sure if this could be a nerve or muscle issue, or if I'm doing something wrong being newly banded.

I had a pain on my right sight for a while, the dr. said it was due to the port pain and muscles being stitched.

But, you might talk to your surgeon about this, he would be the best to tell you if this is something to worry about.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
