Just so everyone knows a pain contract just states that I am getting regular pain meds from my primary care, or pain management specialist because of chronic pain issues, and by letting an er doctor or other medical personnel know we are on a pain contract it's supposed to let them know we do not accept any pain management from other sources such as the er or urgent care without pre approval from our pain contract doctor...

Some doctors around here do not like this at all and believe if you are On a pain contract you should not be treated by er or urgent care unless it's a car crash or something like that..... and I honestly don't understand why if you are not there for anything pain management related ...

Thanks for the clarification. Dehydration is miserable (been there, done that, etc.). I hope you start to feel well enough to be able to increase your fluids. I'm still working on increasing my fluids.

I understand and that is probably the reason for that dr's terrible behavior but you werent asking for drugs you needed fluids! For him to refused fluids is just asinine!! I hate drs like that!! He was just very unprofessional. He really should be reported.

Unfortunately I live in a fairly small community and the more waves I make the less ill be able to get treatment for different things

I did talk to my friend and sister who both work with this hospital and they game me the name of the administrator of doctors for this hospital, i actually know him that's how small of a town. Just didnt know that was his job lol... so I'm going to talk to him tomorrow about the ER doctor, I guess I'm not even in the top 10 of people to have an issue with him in the last 2 months alone. And alot of people are hoping to get his contract here cut short because he doesn't seem to help people unless he believes the person needs help

Some drs are just jackasses! I am a retired nurse. I have met MORE than my fair share of these idiots!! It makes you wonder why are they even in the medical field if they behave that way? I am sure you aren't the only one he has treated that way.

Incase anyone els is needing some extra hydration I was told to get an electrolyte powder called liquid iv, witch is a little speedy, well they all are.... but I was given a few packs of drop drop hydration relief and I ordered some from Amazon today, they are pretty reasonably priced considering and they have a ton of flavors including my mom found a pack of apple cider flavored ones lol Screenshot_20221003_211822.jpg

Just as an update, I went and saw my primary doctor and she was pissed at how the er visit went as well as urgent care, she told me the guy who came out and said they can't to fluids only in urgent care and I would need to go to the ER was wrong ( he intentionally lied to me so he would have 1 less patent) and she checked and he didn't even talk to the provider working before telling me that, then wrote me down as a LWOS (left with out being seen) she was very unhappy with both situations, she is also filing a report because she feels that either/both of those situations could have ended alot worse, especially had I not already been ontop of trying to correct the dehydration.

She also gave me 2 bags of Fluid, and has me coming back in later this week, as well as the beginning of next week for more. She said it might be more then I need but she'd rather that then not enough and absolutely doesn't want me to be treated that way again.

I’m so glad you got your fluids and that someone is going to report those two. It’s not like retail where not doing your job well just inconveniences people a medical professional can actually cause people harm. They have a much bigger responsibility to do the right thing.

I drink Water throughout the night. After each time I potty, I drink more. It’s the only way I can get close to 64oz of Water a day. I’m sure others will prioritize sleep over the hydration but I find this helps me to feel better overall. I have no problem going back to sleep after I wake up and overall get at least 7hrs each night.

On days that I don’t do this, I wake up in the night with terrible dry mouth which is worse to me than just hydrating as I go.

I've done that here and there, my only problem is I can't go back to sleep very easily, but I figured hydrated and tierd is better then dehydrated, but I stopped when the other night because I think I pulled something, my arm slipped out from under me while I was trying to get up. And I ended up in alot of pain on my right side, it felt like I tore something and now trying to move pretty much at all hurts, so now once I lay down I am afraid to move because of the sharp pains and it feels like I'm pulling on something..... but I now go to bed much later then before and am only laying down for about 4 hours or so because I can't really readjust in bed, and my back will start with shooting pains, so then I just get up.... hoping to heal more and get to go back to before

Have you seen those bed wedges? It helps you sorta sit up a little in bed. Would that help? They sell them at medical supply but sis on Amazon. If nothing else it should make it easier to get into and out of bed.

I actually have a set of Orthopedic Bed Wedge Pillows my mom bought me, and I use them, love them because they are velvety, ironically my hand was on that when it slipped, but I do still use it....
I did talk to my doctor and she's pretty sure I pulled on my internal stitches, but she said to take it easy and it should get better and to ice it

I feel absolutely horrible, and I'm honestly wishing I'd have never gone threw with this surgery, and I never thought I'd say that because I was so excited to finally be able to have it done....

I had sleve surgery on 9/26 at around 10am , I was relised on the 27th by noon, I live 115 mile from the facility I had my surgery at... I've been having some issues getting enough Fluid and have been in contact with my beriatric team,... and I was told because I haven't been able to take in more then 30-35 oz a day, and nothing els they wanted me to go to the er/ urgent care to get fluids....

The urgent care here said they cannot do just fluids I would need to go to the ER, so I did.....

The surgical nurse that I had help me originally was very nice (she was helping give a lunch) and hooked me up to an iv right away and got me settled in ..... the doctor however seemed less then pleased that I was even there.... and when he found out I had a pain contract (witch I'm the one who let him know) and that I just had sleeve surgery he was pretty much dismissive of me at all, he wanted to know surgeons name (I gave him that) he informed me he will be calling her before doing anything els, witch he did.... then he came in and told me I needed to not take so much pain meds, (I only took what was prescribed and less then was perscribed) then told me he would be discharging me.... his nurse was back in the room and removed my IV in less the 5 min (I only had a little over half the bag of fluids) gave me my discharge papers told me to only come back if I'm severely dehydrated (I already had the symptoms they said to look for) and that the doctor suggests I get a electrolyte replacement powder instead of coming in to the ER....

I'm not sure what to do, and I'm wondering if anyone els has had issues with medical personnel when they learn you're on pain meds or had a WLS done?

What the heck???!!!!

My husband is on a pain contract and it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with any other medical conditions that he may have.

You weren't there for pain-related issues, you were there for dehydration.

I'd be calling the Ombudsman and if they did nothing, I'd call the TV station. People need to know that this hospital is okay with letting people die.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I pray you have a speedy recovery and that you can get the fluids in you need as well. Shame on the medical staff (not the nurse) but the doctor, who did not take your symptoms seriously.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
