Guys is it normal to be terrified of my surgery tomorrow? I am getting the gastric sleeve and this has been a two year process. I’ve been on the liquid diet for 2 weeks and now that my surgery day is here I am extremely nervous. I suffer from anxiety so I know that plays a part. Anyone have this un easy feeling ?

As I have said to everyone else who has said this question, myself very much included, we would not be human if we didn't fear the unknown.

This surgery is a lifesaving game changer, if only you could see me and others who have had the courage to go before you, you would run to the operating theatre. If this is the right time for you to do this, then you will find the courage to get inside the hospital tomorrow. After that the staff will take over and you will be in safe hands. They know what they are doing even if we don't. Just believe and breath.

I have lots of anxiety about my surgery and not even a date yet! Totally natural and totally understandable. It’s a huge life change that has to be acknowledged for how different things will be when it’s done. You have come this far and will do great. Remind yourself about how much you can do at a lower weight!

Good luck tomorrow… please come back on and let us know how things went!

Of course it is normal to worry.

If you ask for something when you get int he back they will give you something to calm down.

Good luck!

pretty normal - I've had four surgeries in my life, and I always freak out before having one. And they've always gone well!!!

If you said you weren’t nervous, then I would be surprised. It’s that normal. Just try to focus on all the things you are looking forward to changing in the near future. There is a thread called weirdest non scale victories if you haven’t already made a list of goals.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
