My favorite high fiber food that can easily, ahem, end backups (and it is yummy yummy yummy ) is split pea soup… make it yourself easy enough with:

split peas (dried bean section of grocery store, cheap too)

carrots (I use a bag of baby carrots)

chicken stock

either: bone from a spiral ham with some bits still attached, ham hock or two packets of Goya ham seasoning

i pressure cook for about 50 mins in my instant pot and it is sooooo tasty and has about 16 grams of fiber per cup! (If it’s too thick, add Water or stock)

I also use lentils too - they have good plant Protein and high fiber

Nutritional yeast (adds an aged cheese flavor)

chia seed pudding (make with a Protein Shake to add protein)

Ground flax seed (use in oatmeal or make flax crackers )

hemp seeds (also a good source of protein)

psyllium husk powder (what benefiber is made from) can be mixed into muffins, pancakes, or crackers. A little goes a long way!

Cocoa powder

Thank you all. I too love pea Soup. I'll also try the seed in my shakes.

If this is to "keep things moving", so to speak, you might benefit from consuming Probiotics (either in capsule form or in something like yogurt.). I eat a ton of salads that have lots of fiber and I still had issues and eating a small yogurt every morning has helped a lot.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
