Concerns Pre-Op, looking for someone to ask

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I am Kam, 37 years old male. I am going to have Beriatci surgery probably by end of October and have so many questions and concerns about post-op and side effects but not sure who I can ask these questions since my Beriatic group is not very helpful and responsive. I was wondering if I can find someone preferably a male between 30-45yrs that been through surgery so I can ask my question from a real case patient.

My current weight is 330lbs and I am 6.1.

Welcome! I think you will find many helpful people on here. There are mens only threads and sleeve conversations et. Al. Just go to furum to find different topics and ideas. Congratulations on getting a surgery date!

Hello and welcome. I believe there is a "guys only" forum if your questions are specifically male related you could try that forum. But, I have noticed that the sub category forums seem to be pretty dead.

You can try to search your questions, you would be surprised what pops up!

Otherwise, just post your questions and people will answer. Maybe men or women so if you specifically want male answers, maybe state that in your post.

Good luck, I hop you get all your questions answered!

I am sure there would be plenty of good people in here to ask. There is also a guys room thread if that makes you more comfortable.

Welcome and congratulations on your decision to have surgery. As others have mentioned there is a mens only forum if it’s really gender specific question but it usually does not get as much traffic as the general forums. You could try there but if you don’t get many responses possibly just start the topic with men only please and your age preference and then ask your questions in a more general forum if you just are wanting answers from a males perspective.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
