Abdominal Binder

Recommended Posts

I didn't have one for my gastric bypass (some people do, some don't - probably the same with sleeve). I did have one after my Tummy Tuck, though.

I was curious because I haven't hear anyone mention it on here anywhere, and I was going to ask my doctor next visit, but wanted to see if anyone had one, or not, if it helped, or if they were fine without it.
Thank you for your reply:)

My surgeon puts it on after surgery.

My surgery is coming up but the surgeons staff said it does help with coughing, standing, etc. I'm hoping so.

I bought one because I wasn't sure, but they ended up putting one one me as I was coming out of anaesthesia. It made me feel a little better, but honestly it was probably mental. It gave me the piece of mind that nothing was going to rub my incisions, as I wore it under my clothes. I think I stopped using it about day 3, when I finally felt good enough to shower lol.

My surgeon never mentioned using one, but I heard a lot of people using them on these forums.

After surgery when I got up and started moving around my nurse gave me one. I didn't feel like it helped so I took it off and never used it.

I woke up from sleeve surgery with one on. Wore it while in the hospital. Dr said it was for my comfort and I could remove or put it on as desired. I took it off to shower and didn’t notice any difference so I didn’t put it back on. I was lower BMI, though. I think it helps most if you carry alot of your weight around the belly area. I wore a long slimming cami though just to keep my clothes from rubbing the incisions.

My surgeon does not use them but I did choose to wear a compression tank top (sort of like shapewear) for the first week or so post-op. Nothing super tight, just enough to help me feel comfy.

Just now, Bettyboop56 said:

I asked my surgeon at preoperative and he said it was an option. I never did use it. But will for Tummy Tuck.

Oh yea, not an option for the tummy tuck!

I woke up with one on after surgery. I have to admit it was a nice stand in for not having a bra on. Kinda lifted the girls or at least felt like it cause there was fabric beneath them. Lol. I was advised that I could use it or lose it as I desired. I took it off to shower and never put it back on because I didn’t notice a real difference. I have heard people who carried a lot of weight around their bellies say it helps though. I think it’s just a preference thing.

Yes. It helps a ton with incision pain. Highly recommend it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
