Sooooo I had the band placed in 2008, did pretty will with it, (so I thought) lost about 50 pounds and held in the 180’s. However, it turns out I really didn’t do well with the band. Almost everything made me vomit. The vomiting continued until I had a hiatal hernia. Band was loosened, the weight came back. They retighten the band, and weight hasn’t budged. I’m about 10 pounds lighter than I was when I had the band placed. Not only am I embarrassed by my weight. I’m embarrassed for people to know I have the band, and it failed, and I am going to try this for a second time. I had an app with a surgeon this week. I’m going to get my band out, and be revised to bypass. This will hopefully help with the vomiting and get the weight off once and for all.
He said based on the length of time I have had the band, he wants to do this in 2 steps. Band and scar tissue out and then bypass 1-2 months after. I’m terrified something will happen, the band will come out and then I can’t get the revision.

Can he convert to rny in same surgery? I know it is a very common to do so. I think you will find the rny is a much more comfortable, more natural feeling of restriction compared to the band. Good luck and really hope you get your revision.

Hi, I’m similar to you.. I although I had my band done in 2013. I’m now looking at gastric bypass. I’ve had my appointment with the GP and booked into the surgeon next month. I think it’s standard practice to do it in 2 stages.. I had the liquid taken out of my bad 18 months ago so I’m hoping they might be able to do the surgery at once.. given it may have had time to rest with out it the liquid in it. The nurse told me that they will consider once they get in there. 🤷🏻‍♀️ but talk to the surgeon and see what he says. Are you booked in?
Can you ask them if all is ok once they get in there if they can do it all at once.

I’m having band to bypass revision in January. My band is 10 years old and has never been filled. If it was in good shape and in place/no erosion they can do it in one. If not, it’s a two step procedure. My fluoroscopy and endoscopy showed it’s in great shape and in place so it will be removed and bypass in one. I’m almost through my preop stuff, and hoping for a date in January after approval.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
