mne8171 1 Posted September 6, 2022 I’ll be having surgery the end of this month and I’m just so scared and nervous. Like I feel like I will back out! Please tell me it is so worth it! 1 KimA-GA reacted to this
summerseeker 2,247 Posted September 7, 2022 You would not be human if you did not notice any nerves or worries before this huge surgery. I am the same when I have my twice yearly appointments at the dentist. Fear of the unknown. Read the ' before and after photo's ' in this forum, this should give you some inspiration, it did me. I wanted to be 100lbs lighter and tada, waves magic wand, now I am. I have not had the easiest ride but I wouldn't change a thing. My entire life has changed for the better. If you have to back out, its ok. People on this forum have done this and some have eventually had the surgery and wished they did it the first time. It has to be the right time for you, Good luck 1 1 mne8171 and KimA-GA reacted to this
kcuster83 1,504 Posted September 7, 2022 Most people get nervous. Don't worry, it is absolutely worth it. I have no regrets and wish I had done it sooner. 1 1 KimA-GA and mne8171 reacted to this
KimA-GA 540 Posted September 7, 2022 pre-op here… even tho I know this is what I want, I have natural doubts and reservations about undergoing a major surgery. I have been writing my whys. Why do I want surgery? What will it get me that other methods won’t? What sort of life will it allow me to have in six months? a year? Five years? also, what am I most afraid of? How likely is it or how would I deal with it? it helps me to write it out like that and process it mentally. 1 Tomo reacted to this
ShoppGirl 5,023 Posted September 7, 2022 I don’t think any of us can say we didn’t have any fear pre op. In fact I would probably wonder why if you didn’t. I have been through three surgeries before this one and I still had some nerves a few days pre surgery. There is no shame in rescheduling if you are not ready. I have seen a few people on here who backed out and had the surgery a while down the road when they were truly ready. If it’s just the typical pre surgery jitters though, talk them out here. Write down WHY you are having this surgery and what your goals are. Also check out the “weirdest non scale victories” thread. 2 Tomo and KimA-GA reacted to this
SpartanMaker 919 Posted September 7, 2022 This will be my 15th or 16th actual surgery, including open heart surgery in 2020. I'm always nervous about them and I think that's healthy. It's perfectly normal to wonder if you'll get the results you are hoping for, to be concerned about how much pain you'll have and how your life might change, and to be concerned about potential complications. The way I have always coped is to learn as much as I can about the surgery in question. Regarding my bariatric surgery, I know my specific risk factors and how to minimize those risks. I have detailed plans for every step of the recovery process, including how I'll eat, and how I'll deal with pain or complications. I know that stalls are a normal part of the process and that scales lie. I know that what really matters is how I feel. I know exactly why I want the surgery and how my life will improve as I lose weight. I have very specific goals related to % body fat loss and rewards planned as I progress. I short, I have done everything I can to mentally and physically prepare myself for this surgery. This preparation reassures me that this is the right choice and makes be feel in control, which goes a long way toward alleviating the fear. 2 KimA-GA and Tomo reacted to this
