Stall with water retention

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I know a lot of people here went through the stall but I read many people said they at least lost inches during that time. I'm on my 10th day of stalling and both the scale or the measuring tape hasn't moved since then. Besides that I drink around 80oz of Water a day but I pee super little and in the morning wake up very bloated. Is all of these things normal?

I think the stalls you have read about are later stalls on the journey. This first stall is scary because you will not yet believe the process. My first stall was 2 weeks and my second 5 weeks. I didn't bother to count them after that. Ride it out, weigh yourself less. Keep doing what your surgeons team told you.

Is your urine dark or light? If its dark increase your Water intake if you can and contact your team if you are worried. Are you having salty drinks ? like homemade broths ? These make me retain water

10 days on a stall is normal. They normally last 1-3 weeks (although I've heard of them lasting even longer). The bloating combined with infrequent urination sounds like you're retaining Water. I agree with summerseeker - may be due to salt intake.

Thank you! I'm trying but it's hard not to be bothered especially when I'm 5 weeks post op and not losing inches too. My urine is definitely not dark. I don't have salty drinks but my foods are definitely on the saltier side

Oh my god, 3 weeks? 😭 I'm going to lower my salt intake and see if there are any changes

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
