Recommended Posts

I'm on my 10th day of Pre-Op diet..alittle hard but getting threw with it. Surgery day is Sep 6th and Ive already have all my waters Protein Drinks and Protein Drink and powders and broths ready. I'm just alittle scared of the pain after and I come out of this fine. I have had family members not come home from simply hospital procedures but I have friends and family cheering me on.

Have you had a chance to check out the thread called weirdest non scale victories. Hopefully looking forward to some of those changes will help you keep your eye on the prize.

TBH I never had any pain after the first day. I hope you have the same result. Onwards and downwards

I won't lie the gas pain was awful the first night after surgery and the next day for me. (I had a double dose of gas though)

After that second day, I had a minor discomfort still in my shoulder/chest areas (still gas) and then I was completely fine. I never took pain meds or even Tylenol once I left the hospital.

I think most people's complaint is the gas pain. You will be fine, just remember the goal!

Yea I guess I could have added that I was one of the lucky ones who had very little pain post op. And NO gas pain either. I woke up on pain meds but asked to be weaned from them and left the hospital on Tylenol only. There are plenty more of us out there too. You just don’t hear from them often because they don’t need any help so there is no reason to post about it. Hopefully you will be the same.

you may or may not have pain. I would say based on what I've read here for the past seven years is that the majority of us have little to no pain with these surgeries. They'll send you home with pain meds, though, so if you're one of those who has pain, you'll have something to control it.

The procedure is relatively quick and will be over before you know it. The gas pains will hopefully be the "worst" part, they are not fun, but getting up to walk will allow for those to go away within a day or two. Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
