Pause in the program

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I started my wild journey back in 2019. I met with a surgeon, did 6 months of meetings with a dietician, psyc evaluation and was finally approved by my surgeon. Then when it came time to schedule the hospital put a pause on these surgeries due to Covid. Fast forward two years later and I still haven’t had the surgery. I just reached back out to the doc to get tha ball rolling again. I also reached out to insurance to see if I would have to start over and it looks like I have to mee the requirements (and I did) within 4 years of surgery. Has anyone else experienced a pause like this and what should I expect from the doc? Just curious what is next and timing. Thanks.

Wow that's awful! Maybe try a different doctor/hospital. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but when I scheduled my surgery for revision to bypass, I made my first appointment in June 2021 right in the middle of Covid, and my surgery was November 2021. Some additional precautions were taken in terms of visitors, etc. but otherwise went off without a hitch.

I did. I originally started in early 2020 and am just now getting around to surgery. You can read the whole sordid story here:

Timing-wise, I pretty much had to start over. I was not able to count any of the nutrition visits I did back in 2020.

Well at least you don’t have to start over. I’m guessing the dr will be sorta busy trying to handle the backlog of other patients who are also put on pause. If your flexible scheduling wise I would ask to be put on a cancellation list. Maybe that will get you in sooner.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
