Too much weight lost in the first week

I got banded on tuesday . I weighed in at 332lbs I have followed the doctors orders to a T and have lost exactly 20 lbs as of today. The surgery for me went without a hitch and i was back to work by thursday. I am making a good attempt to get in all liquids and about 500 cal per day. I feel so good i am thinking about a small walk in the morning. The problem is my wife and I are nervous I am loosing to quick the doc told me i would loose 10-15 in the first two weeks not 20 in the first. I have checked everything including making sure i was not dehydrated. I am ok with it as long as this is what is meant to happen. Just looking for some input on the situation to find out if it is necessary to bug the doc in the morning

All is good. Lots of people are upset and concerned by this. You have to put it in perspective.

When you first start losing weight the first thing to go is Glycogen. That is a type of carb stored in muscle and your liver. It takes 4 grams of Water to burn one gram of glycogen. So 80% of your weight loss is Water, 20% is glycogen. THEN comes fat.

Bump up your Fluid intake. You probably will lose 15-20lbs of FAT in the first couple of weeks, but water and glycogen come first.

Take advantage of this time of easy weight loss! Go for that walk!!!! Get some easy exercise. Weight will never come off this easily again so take full advantage of it and enjoy!

On a 500 calorie diet you will lose a large amount of weight the first few weeks. A LOT of that weight loss is Water not actual fat.

I dont have the formula, but if you calculate your weight + caloric intake + exercise you can calculate exactly how much fat you have lost vs how much retained Water.

Losing retained water doesnt have anything todo with if you are dehydrated or not. its just a bunch of water your body has stored up.. Talk more to your doctor about this, he should be able to tell you more. I know the first weeks on controlled liquid diets i have done in the past I would lose 8-10 lbs of water weight the first 2 weeks. So your 20lb loss is perfectly normal in my opinion ;)
