Hello everyone! I am new here. I have not yet been banded, but am starting the process (seminar this week, woohoo!)

I have struggled with my weight my entire life, mostly due to the fact I have PCOS and a metabolism that sucks, no matter what I do ;) I have tried all the diets out there, and after high school (and struggling with bulimia) just continued to get heavier.

I lost almost 100lbs after my daughter was born, but I was breast-feeding and my horomones were actually balanced and I had a functioning metabolism for the first time in my life. It was so awesome! However, my daughter weaned and I got pregnant again, and gained back about 60lbs of that weight (I was at 200lbs.

Then this past January my 2nd daughter was stillborn at 41w, and I have been unable to lose the weight this year, no matter that I Have tried Jenny Craig (which did work, but I simply don't have the money for it, and it worked only when I was breastfeeding) and Atkins, and WW...ugh. I am so tired of this! I am currently at about 260, and have maintained this year, but I know it's only a matter of time before gaining starts.

So I am scared and nervous (mostly of the actual surgery!) but excited to start this journey too. I'm 27 and hope by my 10yr reunion in 2008 I can be down to at least high school weight of 200 or so. (not great, but at least I wouldn't be FATTER than high school!)

looking forward to meeting you all, and picking your brains!

JEN

Hi there! Welcome to the sight. I am also a newbie who has yet to be banded! I'm still very nervous about the whole process b/c I've never had any surgery or hospitalization. I hope this sight is as helpful for you as it has been for me.

I went to the seminar and had my surgeon consult last week and after being on this sight I could have given that seminar! No joke. I've learned SO much. I've also met with my nutritionist and all that is left is my psyc eval and 6 month physician monitored weight loss program. I can't wait to get skinny!

Good luck!:whoo:

Okay guys, just jump on in and get your feet wet here! We were all newbies once, and I think because of the good experiences we had with folks on the forum who took us by the hand pre-op, we feel we should be available to do the same thing for folks after us. There is no substitute for experience. You're in good "hands."

i am a newbie to and it is a long process to get insurance companies to approve but it will be well worth it. I just got banded on 12/12/07 and i feel great. the surgery no problem after surgery that day soreness yes. but all and all i felt great. i wanted to get up and move around but couldnt. stupid iv in your way. i went home next day just to start the dreadful 1-2 week liquid diet. but its not to bad i dont feel hungry. ive lost 29 pounds its been 8 days. but i know once i start the pureed foods the weight loss will be slower. but thats ok. thats the way the band is meant to be. slow steady weight loss the theskin has time to reform to your new body. so keep at it. everything will work out great for you.

hey lana,

pcos is polly systic overian syndrom- basically the body cant break down sugars and there are many little systs on the ovaries which look very similar to fertilized eggs so the body thinks your preg. so you get cravings and weight gain like a preg person. some other common side effects are iregular period and exessive Hair growth. its not fun. the doc give you a med (usually metformin or glucafoge) wich helps the body break down the glucose and then when you diet you should lose weight like a regular person but she told me thats not the case for me at all.....

Hi guys and Merry Christmas. I had my surgery on Nov 12 and am so happy I did.

I wish all those pondering the decision to have surgery the strentgh to Celebrate you and take the plunge.

While progress is slow for me, I am still convinced I will make my goal and have even adopted my surgery date as a second birthdate.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
