6 months dietician requirement completed out of USA virtually

Recommended Posts

Did anyone had an experience where did completed there six months of dietitian and nutritionist requirement for the insurance through a nutrition that was outside of United States of America?

I followed a diet program through a nutritionist for about eight months but she was located in Pakistan and we did virtual visits every month.

I spoke with my insurance company and they told me that I need to submit A claim to the insurance on behalf of the dietitian but I wanted to know if somebody else had that experience and how did everything turned out.

Just like any other doctors, less emergencies, they have to be in my insurance network. I can't imagine one from Pakistan would be in network.

I know all insurances are different but they might not cover the appointment fees.

How did you end up with one out of the country?

I was in Pakistan visiting and met this dietitian. It was cheap so I wasn’t bothered by the charges and at that time I wasn’t even looking into surgery.

im not concerned with insurance covering the cost. My concern is how to meet the 6 months requirement of diet with a dietitian/ nutritionist. Like if anyone had experience with submitting that to the insurance

I’m thinking you have about a 50/50 shot of it meeting their requirements. The insurance coordinator at your dr’s office may have had some experience with something like that. You may want to consider getting started with meeting the requirements locally while they submit it if you are wanting the surgery asap. Of course it will cost you the copay and your time but if you do have to do it again at least you will have a head start.

Oh ok, well that makes sense.

Maybe, ask your surgical team if they can get reports and submit to the insurance as if they were a local Dietitian?

For example, my team referred us to the "pre op" Dietician who sent the surgeon the reports and then when I completed all the requirements the surgeon center submitted to insurance for approval. Post-op my team includes a Nutritionist which is included in my post-op visits.

May depend on the insurance. Some may want to see the person you spoke with have a US credential like RD, or RDN.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
