katie13 7 Posted August 20, 2022 Hey y’all. Has anyone had any troubles getting their liquids and Protein Water down the first few days after surgery? I am having a hell of a time with it. Im taking baby sips like my doc said but still struggling.
ShoppGirl 5,007 Posted August 20, 2022 (edited) Many of us can’t reach our Water or Protein goals the first several days. Just do your best and if you see signs of dehydration contact your team and they should be able to arrange for fluids as an outpatient. Try different flavors and different temperatures too. Some people can handle hot tea and such or room temp over cold. Also remember that all fluids count towards your goal for most programs. sugar free popsicles also help. summerseeker 2,237 Posted August 21, 2022 Yes I imagine half of all patients on here struggled with their Water intake. Me included. Waking with such a dry mouth is the worst feeling. Have a drink handy at all times and even in the night. Every day will get easier as the swellings in your tummy recede.
Spinoza 1,452 Posted August 21, 2022 (edited) Oh gosh 9 months out this is still my bugbear. I found it hard in the immediate post-op period because my pouch simply wouldn't hold much. Now my problem is eating when I haven't already had enough to drink that day - I'm automatically left waiting for an hour to drink fluids while getting more and more thirsty. But hunger always seems to win over thirst. I know that the signal can be similar for both. Really need to fix this it seems to be a problem for me most days even this far out.
