Fuff 6 Posted August 15, 2022 Hi! I am 2.5 weeks post VSG. I’m in puréed stage and following everything to a T - HOWEVER, I ate an ounce of hummus that had poppy seeds in it before I realized OMG these are seeds! I told my Dr who told me to watch for fevers etc. But I’m wondering if anyone has done this or similar.
ShoppGirl 5,022 Posted August 16, 2022 (edited) Not seeds but I misinterpreted the instructions and ate Pasta earlier than I was supposed to. I was terrified after they told me about the possibility of a bolis (I think that’s what they called it) but I was fine. I also accidentally swallowed a cherry pit when I was on regular foods but still early out. Both times fine. All you can do is watch for signs of an issue like the dr said and obviously dont do it again. Edited August 16, 2022 by ShoppGirl
Arabesque 7,426 Posted August 16, 2022 In reality you probably ate very few poppy seeds but yes, watch for any side effects. Did you see any poppy seeds or were they puréed in the mix? If you didn’t see any, you’ll probably be ok. These things happen & is a good reminder to be extra vigilant. I’m an avid reader of nutritional panels & ingredients on anything I buy because you just don’t know what ingredient they include. Poppy seeds would be the last thing I would expect to see as an ingredient in hummus. (Sesame seeds in the tahini which is an ingredient in hummus sure but that’s puréed so ok.) 1 SleeveToBypass2023 reacted to this
Tony B - NJ 643 Posted August 16, 2022 None of this is a really big deal. Poppy seeds are not going to cause you any major issues or discomforts. I ate food with poppy seeds in it right from the beginning. I didn't even know it was an issue. I would not even give it a second thought and would have some more right now. 1 Alex Brecher reacted to this
