I was approved for surgery, much sooner than expected

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new here. I joined this forum with the expectation that my surgery was going to be about 10 months from now. I went to the surgeon today and I'm looking at two to three months from now. Which yay?!? I don't have to think about the what if's as long, but now I'm overly anxious about "holy crap, it's so soon I don't have time to prepare". I'm having the bypass which is what I went into the appointment expecting him to say I would need.

I'm just nervous and jumping in head first reading all the posts. Thanks for sharing your stories, I didn't want to read them while being a creeper and not sharing mine.

I get you may be a little torn between the excitement it’s happening sooner but also worried as you’re losing the time you were going to use to better prepare mentally, emotionally & physically for the surgery.

My process went very quickly. (We don’t have the same approval hoops from insurance companies here in Australia thank goodness.) From my appointment with my GP to get a referral to getting the appointment with the surgeon, then the dietician was not quite 6weeks. No time for second thoughts. It was okay because I generally am someone who makes a decision & that’s it. Plenty of time to get myself organised for before & after surgery.

Your surgeon is obviously very confident you are ready. Just think, you’ll be losing weight & feeling great much sooner.

You got this. All the best.

From my 1st appt to my surgery date was only 2 1/2 months. It can be a little overwhelming when it happens so fast, but that's also a good thing. So many have a 6, 8, or even 12 month wait and we didn't. We're extremely lucky and blessed. That just means you get to start your journey to a healthier you that much sooner :) Congrats!!!

Two to three months should be plenty of time to get your questions answered and get yourself prepared I would think. You can always ask for a later surgery date if you don’t feel ready but I’m guessing you will be.

I had my first appointment with my surgeon on 4/28 and my surgery was 6/7. I'm was already determined to have the RNY and my surgeon agreeing with me helped. My insurance didn't cover it and that also expedited the process as there were less hoops to jump through. My surgeon knowing we were cash pay used tests I had already had run in the past 6 months/ year. Everything went very quickly. I knew I wanted though, I had read up on it, I knew the risks, I was ready for a life change.

I hope I get approved for my surgery sooner too. I started the process back in June and at my appointment on the 1st, they said in order to get my papers sent in to my insurance, I have to get my thyroid to be a normal. So 1 to 2 months and I'll be getting my thyroid levels checked again. I have a few more appointments left on the list of appointments they have us patients do. I don't think ill be getting it before the new year tho, I guess you never know, it could happen.

I'm extremely nervous and scared , but I think we will be fine, that's why they do all our appointments and testing right?

Absolutely! They check everything. It's reassuring how thorough they are.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
