New to group out of California, surgery set for 8/22

Recommended Posts

New to this group and just started my two week pre op diet. Feeling good so far and looking forward to the surgery date. I previously had the lap band from 2009 - 2017 when I had it removed due to the port flipping 3 times on me. You all got this and it will be worth it at the end.

Congrats! I get my sleeve on the 16th. 2 days!!! I wish you well with this one. Where in California? I'm here also. Live in Los Angeles but getting my surgery done in fountain Valley it's a long drive but worth it! I really like my dr. And my surgery coordinator.....The Best ever! She's made me feel so good about doing this. This medical group is great. And the hospital staff I've talked with are too!

Thank you!! I’m in La Mirada and having my surgery in Orange. I had my lapband back in 2009 in Fountain Valley at Orange Coast. I had the band removed due to port flipping 3 times.
I’m doing fairly well with my liquid diet and counting down for the 22nd.
Wish you the best and a speedy recovery after surgery.

Is that at Fountain Valley Regional Medical Center? That's where I'm going. In fountain Valley. Never been there before this. But I really like what I see in my Dr and staff. My insurance group sent me there. I was just happy they'd pay. I've been wanting this for years but didn't think it a possibility. I'm so incredibly thankful! Good luck! :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
