Hi! I'm Julie and received my lapband on Thursday, December 13, 2007. I did very well and am feeling good! The biggest issue has been that I had, what my surgeon called, an 'extreme' hiatal hernia. My entire stomach was in my chest cavity. So, when he went in, he had to cut my diaphragm and re-place my stomach. I can't tell you how much easier it is to breathe, not to mention the lightness in my chest!

Other than that, things are good. My right shoulder is hurting some from the gas. My doctor said it was ok to take Gas-x strips and that gives me quite a bit of relief. I had a little morphine at noon on Thursday and then I've had 2 doses of my loratab liquid. SO, the pain hasn't been a great issue. I've done exceptionally well.

I'm pretty excited about losing the weight. I've lost about 40+ since June, so I'm hoping that it will continue in the same fashion.

I'm still on liquids, of course. My husband went grocery shopping and evidently planned on Soup for the next 6 months or so! I think he bought the entire aisle! Not really, but he did get more than I would have ever guessed! More info to follow.. Glad this site is here!:clap2:

Hi Julie, and welcome to LBT! Wow, sounds like you had quite an experience there with the hiatal hernia. I hope you are feeling much better soon. It sounds like you have a supportive husband, which is wonderful.

Hi Ladies,

My name is Kat. I was banded 12/10. I had a hernia too. The pain isn't as bad as the liquid diet :-)

i just want to add a few egg noodles to the broth. I'm tired of the taste of sugar substitutes, boosts, and ensures! LOL! and I have cabin fever.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
