Recommended Posts

Found these high Protein low carb Snacks at my local gas station. All where absolutely delicious.

First the puffs. Oh i miss chips and this fills the gap. 130 cal, 3G carbs, 18G protein 1 gram sugar.

Quest Peanut Butter cups. Tasted amazing. similar to a reeses, 190 calories 1G Net carbs 11 gram protein, no sugar

poptart thing, Was alot softer than a real poptart, but it was still very very good. 180 calories 5G Net Carbs and 20 grams of protein.

I’m so jealous of your gas station.

I have tried the pure Protein puffs, but the flavor was something like a spicy cheddar or something of that nature. They were pretty good but kind of dense for a "puff" I was hoping for more of a cheese curl texture.

I keep eyeing up the Quest Peanut Butter cups but haven't taken the plunge yet. haha

I love pop tarts, but I have never seen these pastries around me. I need to find them, and check them out! YUMM

I can imagine them now fresh and hot out of the toaster. Guilt free. hehe

Thanks for sharing!

I don't think I could eat those. A decade or so ago, I lost about 80 pounds eating a low carb diet. Highly processed items like those you're showing were a mainstay of my diet then. I eventually gained every one of those pounds back and then some when I reached my goal. I think the problem was that at the time, I never learned how to eat real food.

For me, items like that are like a gateway drug. If I eat them, I soon want to have the "real thing" even more. I plan to just stay away and focus on clean eating.

I can understand that. Its nice tho to have a snack every once in a while. Especially when you dont have the time to eat a proper meal. one of these may be a good replacement til you can eat a meal.

Back up plans keep us on track, IMO.

I always have a Protein Bar with me just in case. Rarely eat them but it is always there in a pinch.

I have a stash of Built Bars in the fridge for grab and go Protein. The “puff” bars are my favorite, but the regular are good too. They taste like a candy bar, but are protein dense and help curb hunger until I can get to real food, so I didn’t cave and grab fast food while on the run.

Those tuna pouches were a life saver in the beginning for me. Tons of Protein with a tiny portion. I keep those in the cabinet at home too. haha I got tired of them though, so haven't had one in a while, but they are there if needed.

For sure. I have not tried these in a while, but I have made my own Protein Bars in the past. At least for those, I can pronounce all the ingredients! I may have to try those again?

Wow. I love your gas station too. I haven’t been able to find many good options around here. I thought The Quest reeces were pretty yummy. I think I got them at Walmart near the Protein bars. I would put them in a ziplock so I would have it with me because most times I was satisfied with only one cup. The puffs and the pop tarts I have not seen yet. I will have to check around for those. I agree that you gotta splurge sometimes and it’s better to splurge on something like that. I guess we are all different in how we manage this journey though. Thanks for the suggestions.

I tried the Quest Peanut Butter cups. They weren't too bad, but not too great either. I guess nothing compares to a Reece. haha

They just came out with some reformulated Zero Sugar Reese's and my fiance swears they taste exactly the same.

They do not. lol

I tried them before surgery. And, for being sugar free the calories on a lot of these candies are the same if not more. Drives me nuts. I would rather just learn to eat the real thing while focusing on moderation and self control.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
