What Health Changes have you seen?

Recommended Posts

So let's set aside the actual weight loss part for a moment... I'm curious what improvements folks have seen in their overall health as a result of the weight loss. For example, Normal A1C without meds, normal blood pressure without meds, improved cardiovascular health, no more need for a CPAP, etc.

Care to share?

Normal blood pressure (sometimes runs too low) and normal cholesterol levels. Those were my two problems when I was morbidly obese but now, both are normal. My knees used to hurt but not anymore. I completely forgot about that problem even though I had for it for years until I sat here and had to think about any other problems answering your question.

Same with me - normal blood pressure and cholesterol without meds. Also no longer pre-diabetic. No achy joints.

I had high blood pressure before surgery. Almost immediately after surgery my blood pressure tanked. I was in the 130-140's with BPM around 90+. Now i am in the 110's and BPM around 55-60 resting.

Pre-diabetic (on massive amounts of metformin), high blood pressure, and a heart issue pre surgery. Now, hope is the heart issue will improve but not be fully rectified.

I haven't taken metformin since surgery (11 months now) and my A1C is great. Fasting sugars are great. Vitamin D which is usually extremely low is normal again. My blood pressure is way down - meds have been cut but I will probably never go off them because they are for BP as well as my heart issue. in fact, I probably should drop the meds again but we are trying to keep me at the highest levels I can tolerate without completely tanking my BP since I need it for the other issue. At my latest heart echo, there was slight improvement in my heart - the cardiologist is excited to see the next echo in a year, since I would have sustained 100+ lb loss by that point.

same here. Amazingly, at well over 300 lbs, my bloodwork was always in the normal range, but on the very high end. Now it's all on the very low end of normal. My borderline sleep apnea is long gone.

My diabetes numbers have fallen dramatically. Before surgery my highest a1c was 9.5 and now it’s 5.9. My daily blood glucose numbers are in the 90-110 range. No more snoring! No more knee or ankle pain. Blood pressure has improved. Medications have been stopped or cut. I feel great.

Normal BP, although it had only been high requiring meds in the months prior to surgery. Normal blood glucose. I was right at borderline before. Normal liver enzymes; I have NASH, so that is a big deal!
My asthma is COMPLETELY improved. I could not tolerate exercise before because I would start coughing and wheezing and get short of breath. Now I can do things like run upstairs and not even be slightly winded. In the past year I have needed my rescue inhaler once. I used to need it several times a week. I never cough or wheeze anymore. I can't even tell I have asthma anymore and it's amazing! I just had my spirometry testing and it was perfect.

I feel like I can do anything now. Then I remember I'm 51 and my body doesn't always agree. [emoji23]

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
