kaninag 35 Posted December 26, 2007 there is numbing cream that your doctor could give you a prescription for...you put it on about 1 hr before accessing your port. The brand name is EMLA but its lidocaine and prilocaine....I THINK... anyway in my office we have a lot of pts who use it for their mediports and they all say it works wonderfully. queenp 0 Posted December 26, 2007 I have had only 1 band fill so far. I had big fears about it. My doctors do not numb you. I felt like I was going to pass out because of my nerves when he put the needle in. It was a bit of a pinch but it didn't last long. I will do better next week when I go for my 2nd fill. You will do ok, just know that it will not take that long.
Big Fred 0 Posted December 26, 2007 Had my first fill on 12-05-07 (3cc's in a 10cc band) and it was a piece of cake. The Dr. asked if I wanted the are to be numbed. Didn't see the need in it, if I was going to have a needle anyway to numb it I would rather she just did it. I didn't look and before I knew it it was over. Very little pinch and then it was over, all that angst for nothing. I realize that everyone is different but believe me you will do fine. 03-24-07 - 374lbs - journey begins 10-25-07 - 349lbs - surgery date 12-05-07 - 319lbs - first fill 12-26-07 - 310lbs - lost weight during the holidays - WOW!! want2beme 2 Posted December 28, 2007 I was afraid of needles too. I went throught a year long medical assisting class and about half way through, we had to learn how to give injections and take blood. They didn't tell me we practices on EACH OTHER! I passed out about 15 times and wouldn't let anybody stick me for the 1st week. The teacher thought I was doing it 'for attention'. YEAH RIGHT! Anyway, I ended up being the BIGGEST VAMPIRE of the class. By week two I was sticking people left and right, we were drawing blood from each other, injecting saline in smiley face patterns subcutaniously... it was a blast! My point? It is just a phobia. The needle for the fills is very thin. It looks a lot scarier than it actually is. Somebody said they numb you? I don't know if I was numbed or not, but I didn't feel a thing. The needle was in before I knew it. Don't be scared. You are going to stress yourself out over nothing and that's not good for you. Just relax and if you're that nervous, ask the doc to prescribe a little medicine for you b4 your apt. My dentist does it for me, I don't know why any other doctor wouldn't.
