Gonna make sure I follow the rules

Recommended Posts

I got so busy baking a pound cake for my son to take tomorrow and doing laundry that I forgot to snack. Here rolls around dinner time. I had broccoli and chicken. I ate too fast due to hunger. I got about 4 bites in and my stomach felt like it had lead in it. I then sneezed five or six times in a row and knew I ate way too fast. All I can say is oww, oww, oww.

They told me to eat slowly and I have been following that rule but not today and I paid for it. It hurt. So here I am an hour later sipping on a Protein Shake because I didn't finish eating. Gonna make sure I follow that rule particularly. Lesson learned. When they say eat slowly they are not messing around.

:)

lol I've been there a few times. I get hiccups and the most uncomfortable pressure in the lower part of my throat. It often leads to foamies. It's been almost one year for me, and I did it just the other day on something small. Argh. A piece of plum. It's so easy to forget that we have to chew well and eat slower when everything else feels so normal.

It still happens to me at three years. Not often but sometimes there are just circumstances &/or distractions which cause you not to eat mindfully. Then your body really reminds you you’ve done the wrong thing. Groan. A couple of months back I was staying at my mother’s & we were having a ‘discussion’ and yep ate too fast & got the foamies. At least me rushing to the bathroom ended the discussion. 😉

Bet it was the plum skin that caused your experience @Tomo. Just a little too coarse & got stuck.

OMG YESS!!! Foamies!!! It was so hard to explain to my family what the feelings were. Especially when you drink wayyy to early after eating solids.

Been there lol I get hiccups and my stomach feels like it's overly full and I can't even drink because it doesn't go all the way down for a while. It just sits there.

I am able to eat fast without any issue and idk if it’s a blessing or a curse. I think it’s good that your body reminds you to eat slow so you can feel your full cues. I try to eat slow but I don’t get the painful reminders that I’m sure I would be more likely to do it for.

Same here, i have always naturally been a slower eater most of the time but not as slow as they recommend. Sometimes I find myself scarfing down food and it doesn't effect me physically. I just happen to catch myself and slow back down.

Depends on the food but I've had that "eat too fast" feeling. It's only caused me to throw up 2x but it was enough. I chew slowly now and really try to pay attention to what I'm eating. I have found in group settings it's just better for me to eat beforehand otherwise I get caught up in the conversation and tend to eat or drink too fast. Heck I made myself sick drinking Water because I drank it so fast that I was in in pain about 4 weeks post op. It was a family dinner. I ended up excusing myself from the table and went to the bathroom and threw up the excess water. Hated that but felt better afterwards. Now I'm very cautious and the only sweets I've had is the low carb/ low calorie ice cream. 2/3 a cup at a time and spread out. A pint is taking forever and that used to be a serving for me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
