liveaboard15 1,293 Posted July 30, 2022 no... you do your pre op diet. and then your hospital paperwork should tell you to avoid eating after midnight and only liquids before surgery. Your stomach is cleared way before you go into surgery. All that stuff has moved onto your colon. 1 Arabesque reacted to this
ShoppGirl 5,009 Posted July 30, 2022 I have only heard that mentioned like once or twice on here. I don’t think that is the standard at all. Your pre op paperwork would probably say it if it’s required but it couldn’t hurt to give a quick call just in case. The girls up front should know the answer. RickM 1,752 Posted July 31, 2022 Probably not, as that is usually overkill with a sleeve, assuming some kind of liquid diet the day before (or at least the night before.) Our program did a clean out, similar to what is done with a colonoscopy, but their standard WLS is the DS which does operate on the lower part of the small intestine, so it is good for that procedure, but admitted overkill for us sleevers. summerseeker 2,240 Posted July 31, 2022 I am in the UK and didn't have to have a enema. I had to stop eating at a point the night before but could drink up until a few hours before surgery.
