I wanted to ask everyone this question. When your Hair loss started did it just start falling out alot all at once or did it start with some shedding that increased?

Thank you

My experience has been increased shedding is the Hair loss. It’s not falling out in clumps or anything like that.

I actually never had any Hair loss. Or at least not enough that I noticed.

For me it was just a LOT of shedding. Started at 3 months, continued through about 8 months. Its just about back to normal now and I'm starting to see a bit of regrowth! I think it varies pretty widely from person to person.

Increased shedding starting in the 4th or 5th month. I don't remember but it was later than most.

It usually starts around the 3rd or 4th month & last about 3 months or so. When you start, how long it will last & how much you lose is an individual thing so you may be more or less the usual which is ok of course. You’ll start to notice an increase in the amount of hair you shed like when you wash or brush your hair.

Remember this is just an acceleration of your natural hair shedding cycle. The hair you are losing is hair you would be losing. It’s just happening faster for a short time. Your still have new hair growing but just at it’s usual rate.

Keep meeting your Protein goals & taking your Vitamins. Don’t stress about it - stress makes everything worse. It will pass.

Mine took until about 5 months to start and was/still is markedly increased general shedding. I think it's just about tailing off now at 8 months. I've had worse before when doing VLCDs - that seemed to be much heavier but not last as long. No actual Patches but definitely visible thinning, e.g. at the temples. No regrowth as yet but fingers crossed that will come now, or at least when I hit maintenance! Good luck, hope yours isn't too problematic for you - definitely not my favourite side effect of the surgery. Well actually weight loss is my favourite side effect, so I'll take a bit of Hair loss to get that!

I've been eyeing a pixie cut but I want it curly. Would be nice if my new growth comes out curly.

Your new hair will be growing but you just can’t see or notice it but then you usually don’t notice new Hair growth anyway. Hair grows slowly (only quarter to half an inch a month) but one day you’ll notice little fluffy fly away hair that will be two or so inches long. Oh yeah I agree. I’ll take a little Hair loss for a big weight loss too.

Wish my hair grew back at least wavy. I spend ages putting kinks & waves in my hair. I did get some kinks (on the back half of my head) when I was peri menopausal but that didn’t last ☹️☹️.

Ok, so I'm back. Need some advice. I'm wondering when I should get my hair cut, if I should wait until most of the shedding stopped or do it now? If I get it cut and its still shedding I don't want my new haircut to look bad because of that but on the other hand I'm getting annoyed with the shedding. My hair is very long (waist) and the long strands all over the place is not fun. What would you do?

I actually didn’t lose a lot of hair but I do have longer hair and I have had periods where I have lost it in the past and I know that it can be a pain with clogging the drains and getting in the AC return etc. personally if I was shedding a lot I would get it cut just because it would be less hair everywhere.

I cut mine in two stages. My hair wasn’t quite at my waist but probably about 2/3 down my back. Had about 4inches cut off in the first month then had it cut to just above my shoulders in the second month. (I go to my hairdresser every 4 weeks to colour & cut my hair.) Have to admit the shorter strands did not look nearly as bad as the long hair in the bottom of the shower - didn’t seem as as much hair.

By cutting off some of the length you may notice your hair is much bouncier & less flat as you don’t have the weight of the longer hair pulling your hair down.

Your hair will grow back but it will just take a bit of time to get back to the length you want it. Or you may decide to keep the shorter length like I did. So much easier to care for & style.

I had already experienced Hair loss (for unknown reasons) before surgery, and I started losing more around 3 months after surgery. It was just a TON of shedding. My hair got so thin that I needed little tiny toddler ponytail holders. I have curly hair so it was easier to hide than if it was straight.
I'm two years post op now and I have a lot of regrowth. It will never be as thick as it was when I was young but it's acceptable again.

This was the same for me. I already had Hair loss before surgery but it stopped and now its been shedding alot for about a month. Did you cut your hair or just let the new growth play catch up?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
