September surgery buddies!!

Recommended Posts

Today is exactly 2 months from my surgery. I only lost 8 pounds thanks to a 3 week stall but I did lose 7 inches total from all of my measurements. Last month I lost mostly on my stomach and lost 4 inches just in that one spot. This month I lost mostly on my thighs and calves probably because my only exercise is walking on the treadmill. I'll take any and all progress though! I hope this next month is better then the last but as long as I keep going down, even if its super slow, I'll be happy.

How did everyone fair during thanksgiving???

Well I gave myself that day as a cheat day and I wasn't even going to track my food but I couldn't stop myself and tracked anyway. I ate more calories then I thought that I could which was 1114 calories. Most of the issue was cheese looking at the breakdown. So many calories in a little amount of food so I'll have to be careful with cheese in the future I think. I did eat a little of everything and didn't worry about carbs and ended up eating 77. The sad thing was that when I just eat what I want to eat, I didn't eat enough Protein and only hit 50. I did have an issue with the turkey itself which I guess is the same as chicken. I just can't eat it very well, it feels like I'm eating rocks and makes my stomach sore. I was worried that it would hurt my mental ability to stick to the diet after giving myself free rein but so far so good. I think it basically got it out of my system and has actually helped my carb cravings and head hunger issues at least temporarily. So I think I did ok and I can see where I need to watch myself and calories but everything is still a learning curve at this point and I learned a lot and got to Celebrate with my family, so it was a good day :)

I ate a lot of calories (there was dessert) but what was crazy is because of the volume restriction from the pouch I still stayed around what a normal person would eat on a normal non-holiday day. Basically just allowed myself to eat everything except bread which was a very nice change. Then I lost two pounds overnight! It might be back today so I am going to stay off the scale a few days.

I have been bad. I need to get back in the habit of tracking my meals and Water. Our Thanksgiving plans were upset by my in-laws getting COVID, so we ended up with a Chuck roast for dinner. It was fabulous thousand. Lol I did ok with not overeating, but I have slid and did try a cupcake from the pull apart Turkey I took into work. I need to get back into the gym on a regular basis too. Walking around shopping is not what I need to be doing for exercise. I totally see me transferring my food addiction into more of a shopping addiction.

Sorry this is a longer post, I have had such a hard time figuring out this website, but I know I need to work on that. Still have not received a bill for my surgery, I think it will be totally covered minus the copays I have pad from my dual insurance coverage. That is a major plus.

I hope everyone is doing great and is having a wonderful holiday.

You did great! I am jealous of the 2 lb loss since I have never lost 2 lbs overnight. I have gained it overnight though lol.

I think I might be having the same issue. I just want to shop all the time now. I do it online though so
I don't even get any exercise from it. Also long posts are awesome because I love to hear how everyone is and get something to read.

Does anyone else still have foods that they can't eat well? I'm so sad that chicken and apparently turkey are still an issue for me. I can eat the deli version of them so it makes no sense to me and its frustrating. I also am having a slight issue with clementines/halos. Its my newest favorite snack, which of course usually changes weekly. I eat about 2 or 3 of them in a sitting, they are about 2 inches across so smaller then usual. I eat them little section by section so I don't think I'm eating them too fast but I get a burning like stomach acid. I have the bypass so I don't think its the acid from me but maybe the halos are too acidic for my new stomach? I take a tums and it goes away and no other issues, so of course I still eat them lol. I hope I'm not being stupid and hurting myself though.

It is weird for me. I can almost eat anything, just in super small amounts. I had turkey, yam and potatoes (about 1 tbsp of each) and even a bit of pecan pie without the crust. However, I made a Keto rum cake to take with me, and I took a small taste of that the day before. I was trying out the recipe. I got the foamies for the first time, from just a small taste. At this point I think my stomach just has a mind of its own and I just have to listen. Most days I just eat eggs, tuna fish, Protein Shakes, Protein Water. I had a meatball for dinner yesterday.

What is the rum cake recipe? I usually make rum balls for a christmas cookie but I've never made a rum cake. Keto too would be awesome! Sorry about the foamies though. I don't think I've had that yet. I do get the burps if I eat too fast or too much though. I wish my pouch was as small as yours though, I eat 4 to 6 oz per meal.

Well I didn’t do terrible for thanksgiving. I stopped when I felt full and didn’t feel like I over ate. That being said I came in last night and ate a piece of ham. Of course I was ok with the ham but promptly went into a sneezing fit. I sneezed so hard it caused me to puke said ham up… what the crap is that??

For me it's fruit. It makes me feel like I ate 2 donuts. Idk if it's because I've been doing sugar-free with almost everything but it feels SO HEAVY. I would eat bananas almost everyday pre-op but now it's like a sugar rock in my stomach

Did OK! Took about 1.5 oz of each item (turkey, roast pork, mashed, sweet potato casserole, sausage stuffing) and was able to enjoy dinner without feeling deprived. I even took 1/5 teaspoon of chocolate silk pie for dessert. I measured everything and scanned the barcode for the pie and my calories came out to about 1000 for the day, I knew I would try to eat dinner, so ate a very light Breakfast and had broth for lunch. I was suprised the sugar didn't bother me but it wasn't worth the anxiety of getting on the scale the next morning! I definitely won't be doing that again any tine soon. I've come too far to screw it up now! I am encouraged by this group, thank you to everyone and good luck going forward on your journey!

I thought we were supposed to stay away from foods with strings (celery, broccoli stalks) that might be hard to digest until 3 or 6 months? Not sure if clementines/ oranges fall into that category, but I have avoided them out of fear. Maybe that is one of the foods that are at the 6-month mark? What does your surgeon or nutritionist say? I would love to hear, as clementines are a favorite of mine, too! Good luck!

I am still not able to eat veggies, but I can tolerate some fruit. I think it may be a sleeve/bypass thing. My doctor did tell to avoid a lot of Fiber.

I use Michael Silverstein's Keto butter pound cake recipe. The recipe for the keto rum cake is from a keto baking book. I got them both on Amazon. I could tolerate some of the butter pound cake (like a tbsp at a time, but not the rum cake at all).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
