Totally agree with that especially weight loss and moving through stages of food! But kellyarw95 and NewmeDC, here are a few practical things that I learned:

You will be very, very tired when you get home. I don’t recall nausea (I know for sure I didn’t vomit) but the gas is for real. Walking helps and a heating pad on your back/shoulders. Take it slow and do laps in your house. I didn’t experience too much pain but definitely needed meds for the whole week mainly for the laparoscopic incisions and the largest one has some really deep internal sutures that are painful. Stay hydrated - tiny, tiny sips of Water. You can figure out Protein later but you will 100 legit not be hungry - it’s weird.

Forget it if you are a side sleeper…invest in a back support pillow because you will need it. I’ve also seen that a lot of people lounge/sleep in a recliner…if I had it to do over again I would likely have invested in one. Roll out of bed holding a pillow to your tummy and letting gravity assist. Do not lift heavy things or reach for things overhead/down low. Hope that’s helpful. Good luck!

This is all super helpful!!! Thank you!! I appreciate it!

So I'm packing to tonight for surgery tomorrow. I added two maxi dresses, one for there and one for home. My kindle. Phone charger. All my meds and Vitamins incase I'm there longer than expected. Toiletries. Comfortable shoes. Some crystals for healing and protection. (I'm Wiccan so it's not weird I swear lol) and my own pillow and blanket. Anything I'm missing??

I think your good? They told me to leave my meds and Vitamins at home bc they'd just use theirs but if they didn't tell you that then I guess it's better safe than sorry. Just remember you'll have to keep all your stuff together during all the transfers, unless someone is there to keep your bag till you're in recovery. I just brought a phone charger, a stuffed dinosaur, my glasses case, an belly binder, and spare undies. My aunt brought my kindle later but that was the last thing on my mind, ditto with my phone, I only used it to tell the time. I wore slides so I wouldn't have to worry about bending over for shoes.

Awesome! Yes I gotta bring my stuffed owl as well. I can't sleep without him. I'm bringing my vitamins because I know they taste tolerable lol. And they said to bring my meds just in case they don't have certain ones. My fiance will be there with me and staying the night with me so that'll be good. Thank you so much!

Oh and Amazon has this great wellness journal from clever fox! It has monthly reviews you can keep up with measurements and goals and log what you intake and exercise!

Anyone recommend the best pill organizer don’t want to lug a big container around when I’m at work? TIA

I love these. I can take out the daily case and keep the rest at home/ it also has a morning and night section so I don’t need to remember which to take when (I can’t take my Calcium with the Vitamins I have to wait a few hours in between) so this helps.

IDK what time it is where you are now but it sounds totally normal. If your Protein Water is 16oz then it would reasonably take 4-5 hours for that bad boy to get down the first few days. It’s the swelling. There’s not a lot of room in there for anything! My doc had me do four 1oz shots of liquid over the course of an hour. Each shot I took 4 sips every few minutes....those were some tiny tiny sips!!! You’re doing great!

I definitely appreciate the response,
It's 2pm here now so I'm definitely behind. It's been 5 hours and I'm still working on the very 1st part of the Water, maybe I'll get something that's 4oz to try to incorage the drinking ....

I never tried Protein Powder so maybe that will be better but if not try clear Protein Drinks. The sweet got to me immediately post op as well and the Protein Water wasn’t nearly as bad.

update— i got protein20 and that was the best decision i made! i still do a Protein Shake i just have started adding 4-6 oz of Water to the milk mixture to thin it out. i didn’t anticipate hating milk this early in the game 😂

Hey there. In those early days the bottle of Water seemed way too overwhelming. I had these one ounce cup that I would pour into. I’d pour basically like 8-10. And then take them as “shots” (very slow shots). I’d do that so that I was taking 2 every 30 min. Before I knew it the whole bottle was nearly done.!

Thank you, I went and found one of my 1.5 oz sauce cups, I'm going to try using those.... hopefully that will help, I appreciate your help and suggestions [emoji3059]

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
