My list contains 100% Isolate Protein Powder. Brands are Unjury, Celebrate, nectar, body fortress, inspire, isopure and dymatize. I am a little defeated right now cause I did loose the 5 pounds requested but have to start on the 31st with only Water and 3 Meal Replacement shakes a day… I might die y’all. I could have done liquid easy cause I love Soup but only 3 shakes???

Can you have some bullion in your Water? Only water and three shakes a day seems really harsh! What about tea? I would ask your dietitian if you could add some different Clear Liquids. How long is your pre-op diet?

Ouch, I hope not!

Ten years ago, the accepted opinion was the whey Protein was superior for supporting weight loss and preventing muscle catabolism. More recent research supports that a combination of both whey and casein is superior. I specifically picked the 2 brands I did (Premier Protein and Fairlife), because they were both milk protein instead of just whey.

I don't know if this will work, but I'm going to try and post some links to research that supports this view:

I love when people post research!

Have you looked at Orgain Clean Protein Shakes (not the powder)? It doesn't specify what kind of protein, just grass-fed milk protein concentrate, do you think that mean it has casein too?

Yes, any milk protein will have both. The problem is they generally don't give the percentage of each. There is research out there that different percentages of casein vs. whey can have different effects, but at this point, we're probably only talking about differences to elite athletes.

I don’t have a quote button… I have to touch the post and hold until one comes up. Which is why it took me so dang long to catch on🤣

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
