Baritastic was what my doctor recommended, however, I use my fitness pal. Both are good, however, I'm a creature of habit and have used my fitness pal for about 10 years.

I use nutritionix, because I saw a post here where someone was recommending it. I like it, pretty easy to use.

I have used my fitness pal and my fat secret. In the UK - My fat secret has the foods from my supermarkets, so I tend to go with this.

I was a MyFitnessPal user before surgery and really like it. My surgeon uses Baritastic, so I switched to that and, though I don't like it as much as MFP, it does the job and I've gotten used to it.

Does bariastic offer anything MFP doesn’t? I used MFP in the past so I’m inclined to use it again. Unless the other one offers something specific to the bariatric surgery journey

I feel like MFP is easier to use. Baritasic was more in-depth which sometimes isn't a bad thing just more clicks to get to the same result. I also encountered a lot of issues with barcode scanning which became a little frustrating and ultimately was the reason why I went back to MFP.

I use my fitness pal too, I tried Baritastic and I felt like MFP was more user friendly.

Plus, I have been using it for years before surgery so I have a lot of recipes saved.

You can also customize MFP to your macro requirements on the free version, moreso on the pay version. I use the free version and it does everything I need it to.

You may be able to customize Baritastic, but I never got that far before switching back to MFP.

The only thing it really offers is connectivity to your surgeon. My surgeon gave me a code to link to their office so the nutritionist can see my food logs, weight entries, etc. I don't recall if MFP has a space for measurements or not, as I never took them until surgery, but Baritastic does have that, which is nice. Weights, food tracking, measurements, etc. are all in one app.

Of those using MFP, has anyone paid the monthly fee to have the have the premium app/services? I found a few things are not available without paying for Premium, although I don't recall what at the moment. I've had MFP for a long time. The adds to go premium are kind of in my face and I'll also add the app has changed a lot and I'm still getting used to it.

I use Baritastic because I like that it's tailored specifically to bariatric patients. It let's you add Vitamin reminders, Protein Shake reminders, and focus on Protein, carbs, sugar, and fat. I've used MFP, Sparkpeople, and other tracking apps, but they can get overwhelming when trying to put in specific nutrition goals. I also like that Baritastic is free. I've found the app on my own, and only been using for about 3 weeks but I do like it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
