That's sort of non-specific-- if you are going to the doctor about having weight loss surgery, he will tell you/give you a diet that you must adhere to. As I understand it, it is to reduce the size of your liver, so that it doesn't get in the way during surgery. You need to ask the doc.

I assume you mean while you are going through the approval process? Or did you mean the actual pre-op diet?

The pre-op diet your surgeon and/or dietician or nutritionist will give to you.

If you are talking about just trying to make changes while going through the process:

Biggest thing is Portion Control, read the package and eat the recommended serving size.

As for "what foods" talk to your dietician or nutritionist at your clinic, I am sure they can help you learn a healthy lifestyle.

What are the foods and portions that I can eat before I have weight loss surgery?

Michelle

Every doctor has their own pre and post op food plan. My pre-op was 10 days on a clear liquid diet (strained fruit juices like apple, cranberry juice or white grape juice with no added sugar, Jello, vegetable juices, and broth). It was sheer torture lol.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
