carpeediem 6 Posted July 20, 2022 Is anyone in Southeast Michigan in search of a workout buddy or have any advice on how to get started working out post-surgery?! I don't know where to begin... Get a trainer. Join a class. Should I focus on the areas of loose skin? I'm lost! I've lost 50lbs since my surgery in March, but in the last month, I've only lost six pounds, and it is freaking me out. Thanks!
kcuster83 1,504 Posted July 20, 2022 The machines at the gym do show you which areas of your body they target. If you have planet fitness, they have a 30 minute circuit and each station tells you what to do. These make it easier to figure things out without paying a trainer hundreds of dollars. And can help target all areas of your body.

I workout at Esporta and sometimes Planet Fitness if Esporta is closed. Not looking for a workout partner but I could give you some pointers if you're interested. Queen ApisM 427 Posted July 20, 2022 Personally, I do think a session or two with a personal trainer is a good idea, even if you will be working on machines. They can help make sure your workout is balanced - you do not want to work out only one muscle group, without working the opposing muscle group - and that you are doing moves correctly. I would imagine most gyms have someone you can engage for a few sessions. It is not cheap, so I realize this is tough for some people to afford, but it can really help with avoiding injury. Squats and lunges are great - unless you are doing them wrong, in which case they can cause injuries which is not what you want.

I'm not in your area but I have lost 80+ previously with Kayla Itsines 12 week body guide you can look up on Pinterest and easy-to-alter workouts to your needs. It was all at home and with very little equipment. She also has a sweat app (a $20 monthly subscription). I never used the meal guide just restricted my calories and I was in the best shape of my adult life I had ever been in. Most people feel like you have to join a gym to get the results you want. My ex-husband tried doing my workouts with me (initially laughed and was trying to get me to join his gym) and couldn't keep up. After he took back all the unkind words he had to say prior. I'm not saying gym memberships & trainers are a waste but sometimes they just aren't in the budget.
SkinnyMingo1408 357 Posted July 21, 2022 I'm starting to just do simple workouts I've found on Pinterest around different areas of my body and walking. I'm 6 weeks out from surgery and trying to move more and not count work. Even though I come home pooped. Just start moving. Anything is better then nothing. The more you do the easier it will get to do more. 2 LilaNicole20 and SHORTY_ reacted to this
