I have found that anesthesia will cause memory loss - for a little while. You are doing a great job losing! Your hormones are having a fit too. Talk to a professional about your depression!

Also your body is releasing a lot of oestrogen in to your blood stream, which was stored in your fat, as you’re losing stirring up lots of emotions & other issues. Also food you may have depended upon for comfort has been taken away from you. This can cause a lot of anxiety &/or depression (grieving what you can’t have or have lost) for some.

Some find they have to change medications they successfully took before their bypass because they are not being absorbed in the same way. Slow release are one type that are impacted. It may be worth having a conversation with your prescribing doctor.

Drops in blood sugar after surgery isn’t uncommon & usually improves. Try taking an electrolyte drink with you when undertaking any activity can be helpful.

All the best.

I been talking to a therapist about it

That's important to do especially on the days you don't want to.

I'm in the waiting room of my therapist now, waiting my turn. I was fortunate that I've had the same therapist for almost 30 years now on and off. He's known me as a teenager to now. So we had talks pre-surgery about the instant gratification that bad food is so good at giving and ways to replace caring for myself by shoveling down a pizza with better, more constructive self care. After surgery has been monitoring my mood and letting myself be proud of how far I've come and the major steps I took. The examples I'm setting for my girls, the humongous change for the better I've made in my life and all the places I'm seeing improvement. Also focusing on the reasons I had the surgery and the things I'm looking forward to as I get smaller. When I hit 200 I'm going kayaking... I've always wanted to but was worried if I fell off I wouldn't be able to pull myself back up.

I know it sounds silly but list the reasons why you had the surgery, what you want to accomplish, who inspired you to get healthier. It may help if you can see on paper what you want. Then try each day (just try, it's ok if you don't succeed) to do 1 thing that healthy and nice for you. Go stand outside for 10 minutes on a sunny day. Stretch. Take a walk. Start making yourself a priority even when the voice in your head is telling you different. You deserve to be happy and loved and appreciated.

This is based on things that help me.

My husband had a terrible reaction to his last knee replacement surgery. The doctor and the clinic has not helped at all. I was shocked how his memory and ability to reason was affected and very disappointed in the response from the medical staff. They did call us after I complained but only to divert a Mal-practice suit. The advice that you were given is very good. I hope you can eventually get relief.

My husband was so bad that he couldn't function if left alone. He is better but after 18 months, he still has anxiety.

It might be a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional who specializes in post-bariatric surgery issues. They can provide you with more details about the potential factors contributing to your memory issues and mental health struggles, as well as any connection to your surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
