Surgery seems like a long way away!

Recommended Posts

I just received my surgery date of October 5, 2022… Seems like such a long way away! Using this time to mentally prepare. I am 60 years old. At times it seems that I have waited too long. Then again I enjoy playing with my grandchildren and finding the energy to do so with this weight is extremely hard. Counting down… 75 more days!

The days will zip by before you know.

I know the feeling. My surgeons office told me it’s at least 3 months after I get every thing completed before I’ll have surgery. I’m just hoping I have it before my birthday next year. I’m using the time to improve me.

Ok, English isn’t my home language - surgery is the right word for “operation”.

Great news! My surgery has been moved up for April 24… I am ready to start watching what I eat and then start my two week liquids… May need words of encouragement during that time! I am so ready to start a new life.

Wow. That’s a lot sooner. Good for you.

I hear you. I sometimes play word games with myself to make it seem closer. For example, instead of saying it's 6 weeks away, I say it's "next month". It's silly, but that feels a lot closer to me!

It will fly. Use this time to address any reasons why you might overeat or soothe with food so when you get to the post-op you'll already have tools to address it and not have to fight it WITH healing from surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
