Had Lapband Surgery 6/12/07 from Sydney Australia

Recommended Posts

Hi

My name is Jenny. I am into my 2nd week after surgery and have lost 5kgs in that time. I am on a liquid diet and i can honestly say i am over it. Can someone give me advise on how to cope until i can start my puree diet and when i do start the puree diet will i experience dificulties with getting use to food in my stomach again?

Any feedback would be very helpful.

A big hello from Brisbane Jenny!

It might be best to contact your surgeons office with regard to when to start the puréed diet.

I haven't heard of anyone having any real issues with getting used to the feeling of food in the stomach when they resume eating, most people report great delight at being able to eat solid foods again. If you do have problems, it is best to give your surgeon (or the surgeons support staff) a quick call.

Congrats on the 5kg!

Hi Jenny,

My name is also Jen and I am also in Sydney. I am currently unbanded but have a referral to see Dr Brancatisano. Who is your surgeon and how did it go? Apart from the liquid diet, of course. I'd also try jelly - as a nurse, we give jelly to our liquid diet patients, along with ice-cream, Soup, cordial, juice....

Merry Christmas, can't wait till those boxing day sales - but then again, why bother buying more "fat clothes"? I won't be able to wear them for long!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
