Arrived in Turkey and was picked up by my interpreter. Was allowed pizza before beginning my 24 hour food and Water fast.

Had my chest x-ray, blood taken for tests and my first blood thinner shot.

EKG in the morning and if all is well, surgery is around 11 am. This is really happening!!

I got to visit with another patient when I arrived who was going home tomorrow to the UK. Feeling very confident now, will be so hard to sleep.

So exciting!!! Please let us know how it goes!

Day 4 post op vsg over here. It hurts less today to walk and move around. I slept in my bed for the first night instead of the recliner. I started my morning off with half a fairlife Protein Shake (this next part is probably TMI, sorry 💩) and about 10 minutes later was struck with the most intense diarrhea of my life! I'm talking doubled over, whole body sweating, crying in stomach cramp agony. It was my first post-op bowel movement, and may have been worse because I also had my gallbladder removed. It was followed by an emotional breakdown where I just sat and cried and questioned every choice that led me to this moment. I don't regret having WLS, but I am having a difficult time reminding myself that there is a light at the end of this tunnel. A little tip I found (if your new stomach can tolerate cold liquid) is to freeze gatorade zero into popsicles! I ordered 4oz popsicle molds on Amazon and find it much easier to suck on a popsicle than sip 4oz right now.

Three's near stomach may have gotten upset is because what I was told was clear liquid for the first week so sugar free popsicles sugar free Jello low sodium broth and plenty of whey Protein isolate Protein Powder

Omg. That was me last night! Also day 4. I couldn't have Protein Drinks yet, but I had some broth and I guess it just hit my stomach funny. I told my husband that I birthed a child and died twice during the process (he was out of the house at the time). I was so sore after (from the completely INVOLUNTARY straining and cramping) that I had to take a pain pill and a Phenergan for the first time since surgery day.

I had the mental breakdown today though. I'm struggling still with fluids. I could start Protein drinks back today, but I can only take 2-3 sips and I feel full for like 2 hours. I'm never going to get my protein or fluids in at this rate. So I'm feeling defeated there.

Then I cried when my husband brought home pizza with the kiddo. They have been super supportive, and I have sat at the table with them for a couple of days no problem. Tonight just got to me for some reason.

Had my surgery Thursday. Not gonna lie it’s been rough, please tell me it gets better 😭 I think it’s just gas pain but swallowing Water is hard, the pills are just torture. Only spent a night in the hospital and back home now.

Day 4 was a bit of a turning point, but I think the 1st month is just killer for everyone from what I have read. Friends who have had these surgeries have told me that they had a lot of "buyer's remorse" the first month and then they loved it from there.

I am new here and I had my sleeve done 10.7.22 and have lost 39 pounds since my surgery day.. wondering what people do exercise wise to keep the weight off and to continue to loose?

I haven't gotten to the exercise part since I'm only on day 5 post op, other than walking. My surgeon wanted us walking 2 miles 4 to 5 times a week within 3 to 4 weeks post op.

After the 4 week mark, I plan on going to the gym and meeting with a trainer to get a more personalized plan. Especially while healing. Another option might be YouTube workouts that are geared towards wls? I haven't looked yet, but I think I might tonight.

Hello, just joined! October 18th for gastric bypass surgery. I'm still wavering due to anxiety and uncertainty about the lifestyle ahead and whether there was more i could have done. About out of time, but wish I was more excited.

Looking at October 2022 for my surgery (vsg)

anyone else around that time ???

I am already making a lot of dietary changes and want to do a “trial run” of some of the presurgical dietary requirements so that my brain and food issues don’t sabotage my success when it comes down to go time.

Soo…. Roll call for October ??

I am scheduled for 10/28. New to this site!

I would talk to your doctor. I'm 6 days post op, and I had no anxiety going in or uncertainty. I knew I wanted to do this. I'm not saying that to brag, I am saying it because post op is hard. I have had several moments of wondering what in the heck I have done. I can't imagine what those moments would look like if I was unsure going into it. Sometimes the thing that brings me back now is remembering how sure and confident I was before.

With that said, the surgery itself wasn't hard for me. I didn't have a lot of pain. I did have stomach spasms (last for a couple of seconds) every time I sipped anything for like the first 4 days. They have become much more random and occasional and less painful by day 6 though. I am struggling with upping my Fluid intake (I have no urge to drink or hunger, which yay but it makes drinking anything a challenge when your body says you are already full).

The emotional aspect though is rough. I know MANY people struggle with buyers remorse for the first month and then report that it gets so much better. I cried for no reason because my husband brought home pizza last night. I cried wondering if my life will get back to some semblance of normal. And I am not a person that cries often. My husband panicked.

Most people have anxiety around surgery itself, so if it's that, then I would say it's normal. However, if you are having anxiety and concern around the lifestyle itself, that would be a red flag for me.

I hope it gets better, and I hope you make the right choice for you (whatever it may be).

I had surgery on 10.11.22. Had some complications was moved out of the surgical floor into a different one and stayed in the hospital until 10.14.22. Everything is going OK now but I have a question. Am I supposed to be popping? I have only had liquids no actual food.

Scared but excited.

Even if you have no oral intake (or only Water, etc) your body will produce some waste. I would say if you haven't had a BM within 3-4 days then I would ask your surgeon. It takes a bit postoperative for your intestines to get back on track (sedation and pain meds slow motility of the intestines), but also most people have less Fluid intake for a few days which can slow it down and make it difficult to pass as well.

TMI- I had my 1st one on day 4, and it was awful. Not because of the surgery itself, but because I didn't have enough fluids to make it "normal". It was extremely difficult to pass. I wish I had gotten a stool softener instead.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
