November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Recommended Posts

Hello, how are the November people doing?

I have been doing good, did not see much weight loss last week since I was on vacation and did eat carbs and had a margarita, but did not gain. I started to walk 30 to 1 hr 5 times a week and will start strength training soon just not the stomach portion since sometimes I do have some small numbness there still.

Don't be surprised if your weight stalls when you start strength training. I started at the beginning of the year 3x/week and my weight stalled for a little more than two weeks but it finally started dropping again a few days ago once my body adjusted.

Yea I kind of expect that specially because I haven't really noticed any stalls since I do a weekly or biweekly weigh in, and I tend to retain liquids. But I'm looking forward to toning up while still loosing weight.

Officially 11 weeks, so excited for my upcoming 3 month appointment, I know the Doc goes over important info for going forward and expectations.

Yesterday was a day that I was having lots of head hunger, my hormones are going nuts having a period every 12 to 14 days, I'm not going to weight myself until the day before my appointment since I tend to get swollen ankles when having pms. I guess having multiple periods is better than going 8+ months without one [emoji57]

Hope everyone is doing well.

I’m officially 3 months and almost a week out of surgery and 60 pound down since first thinking about WLS and that puts me at 50% weight loss from what I put as my goal weight.

Had my 3month appointment last week. We went over calorie goals, macro distribution, any issues we are having and learning curves. We went over goal weight and the RN said that most of the patients say they have 20-30lbs to go on the 6-month appointment and during that appointment is when we go over the goal weight we should be aiming for and what we need to change to reach that.

I should be able to get back on track with Protein, fluids and exercise this week. I’m going to start with having Protein Shakes again at least daily (some days I was trying to meet it only with food) and carrying my 48oz water bottle with me every where and go back to weighing myself weekly.

Wishing everyone good and positive energy in your journey!

Hello!! I finally got to starting my exercise routine and boy does everything hurt 😂 I'm back on track with my fluids and Protein. I'm sort of meal prepping since I'm an accountant and have tax deadlines this week and want to make sure I do not skip meals.

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday with my primary, my BP is down a lot, she still doesn't want to remove the pills but agreed that I can take half if my BP is above a certain number in the afternoon, and in 3 months we can see about taking it a couple times a week until I reach goal to remove, she will feel comfortable if I was in the 150s, a little less than goal but maybe it is possible who knows.

Hope everyone is doing well and everyday closer to your goal!

Hope everyone is doing well! I finished my 1 month training program, start a 2 month one on Monday. My weight loss has been slow, I was going to say non existent but then realized I still lost almost 10 lbs this month. I knew starting weights was going to change the way I weight myself since muscle uses Water to heal, but there were some weeks were I was loosing a pound. Once I upped the water, which I hit now 78-84 oz easily and my Protein is on point, I started to loose again. But can't complain, really haven't had any stalls and if this can count as one, I'm grateful for it.

Exercise made me hungry, like crazy hungry. There was a day where I was snacking on Cookies, Quest chips etc and realized I needed to stop before it became an issue, so I'm doing 3 meals and a Protein Shake split into 2 Snacks. I'm also thinking of doing a few days of shakes only, if I see my weight not moving much this month. I want to be in onederland by 6 months.

Almost at 5 months and officially 50 lbs to goal weight. Have been following my exercise regime and feel more toned. Clothes that I had saved from many years ago are loose, I may need new clothes for my vacation next month or will use safety pins to wait it out until mid summer. Feeling confident and energetic so booked a few activities that I wouldn't be willing to do prior to surgery. Increased my calorie a little bit since I'm lifting heavier this week but stay within 800 calories.

Few days from 6 months and literally less than 3lbs from being in onederland!!! I had my 6 month follow up, have to cut down on my B12, was double the highest amount. My cholesterol was exactly 200 I thought it was bad but the RN told me that because I'm loosing fat my body has to metabolize it so it may show higher the first year or so but not to worry and have it checked again at 1yr.

We went over goal weight and she said to aim to be at a BMI below 30 which is somewhere I want to be. Originally my goal was 180 then I changed it to 160 to see how far I will go.

Off to vacation next week, hoping I can come back and be surprised with being at least 199.9 lol

Thank you for all the updates. I have stalled out and plateaued too many times and I often feel very discouraged. I am not losing very quickly, though I am down to 225 from a presurgery high of 285.

Congrats of your weightloss and keep up your hard work

I feel it helps to view this as a way of life and see how far along you have come. Some days I get obsessed with the scale, or if I'm following the plan to a T, or if my pants fit etc but I go back to my why, and feel like I'm learning what to do to keep going and keeping it off. I'm also working on not rewarding myself for loosing the weight or following the plan, but grasp an understanding that this is my new life (idk if it makes sense lol) and my new normal.

Hope everyone is well!

I have had a slow month so far, only about 2.5lbs but can't blame anyone but myself. Went on vacation and ate everything I saw lol I drank also which I was not doing and this caused major swelling on my ankle, and have not exercised in 3 weeks. However, I'm able to fit some shorts that I purposely bought a smaller size.

I am 11lbs from my original goal of 180 so that's a big plus, my second goal is 160 but I may fall somewhere in between 165-170 depending on how I feel.

I think after I hit 170 , I will not look so much at the number on the scale but how I feel. Funny that now I can see my stomach roll and dare to complain but it shows me that I'm no longer hiding and afraid to see myself in the mirror.

Hello!!

I thought July was slow but ended up with over 9lbs lost, that goes to show when we review what we are doing and something doesn't align, we can fix it.

I have hit 100lbs lost since contacting the surgeon's office. I can't believe it has been a little over 8 months and that it happened, honestly I thought it was impossible which is why I had originally chosen 180 as my goal.

Hope everyone is close to hitting their goal, and if you have congratulations!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
