Today's the Day!

Recommended Posts

Scheduled to show up for my gastric sleeve today at 11:30. I'm not as nervous as I thought I would be, but there's still time for that to change! Pre op Liver shrink wasn't so bad. But sticking to Clear Liquids only at the end (and I did) was a little tough while cooking for my family. Mag citrate was (and still is unfortunately) and adventure. But, I'm down 16 pounds from highest point now thanks to the pre op diet and can't wait to see what the next month brings. I have loads of trust in my surgeon however we all know the unexpected can happen no matter how rare and unlikely. Kind thoughts/prayers/positive energy welcome.

I’m reading this a bit late, so your surgery has likely happened by now. Hoping that all went well and that your recovery is swift.

Thank you for all the well wishes. Everything is going well, so well in fact I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. My surgery was quite late due to unforeseen issues with patients scheduled before me. Not sure exactly, but I think I got back here around 3PM. No problems with fluids or walking so I was discharged around 1PM POD 1. Pain and nausea well controlled. I was able to do some light work in the garden every day starting on post op day one which was a big boost to my spirits. (Even harvested enough basil to make 3 batches of the pesto they love for easy future meals for my family). Cooking for them continues to not be a hardship, that is as long as I have a reliable taster at my side.

Today starts day 1 of full liquids. Stocked up with all I need. Spent last night making some of the full liquid Soup recipes in my program literature so I can have good variety. Right now I can't wait to be able to exercise at full tilt! Energy is good needless to say which I am amazed at.

While I'm glad everything is going so well, I'm also preparing myself for setbacks. Thanks to this board though, I know they will be temporary. I have yet to have any regrets about this choice

Now I'm of to go through boxes of old clothes to "shop" from home for smaller sizes.

Just be sure to remember the lifting restrictions going through those boxes. I know because I did the exact same thing as you. Only I got so excited and into it that I forgot and picked up a pretty heavy bin. Thankfully I was fine but it could have been a huge mistake had I twisted differently or something. Not sure how you remember to not forget, lol. Just be extra careful I guess. 👍

☺️Thanks for the warning. I'm focussing on drawers and boxes that are already out to make sure I don't strain any sutures. You're right, excitement can push us right through to hurting ourselves sometimes.

Anticipate having a big donation bag when it's said and done, will save that for my husband to handle

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
