Supafly82 10 Posted July 6, 2022 Ok I’m really watching out what I eat and tomorrow is my first test as I’m going out with friends to eat. Obviously I’ll carry my Protein Shake with me but I had a question about coffee/tea..would it be ok to have the coffee/tea with caffeine with milk? This is would obviously be just one time but I don’t want to have any ramifications. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Arabesque 7,459 Posted July 6, 2022 What does your plan say? Some are a big no to caffeine for a while but others are okay with it. Mine was no caffeine but yes to green tea (still caffeine but 1/4 of that in black tea) or herbal tea. Caffeine can be harsh on your healing tummy - increases acid production & can cause discomfort. May be better to see how you react at home the first time than when out just in case.
FutureSylph 377 Posted July 6, 2022 I'm with @Arabesque on this one. Even if caffeine is on your plan, why risk it the first time when you're out with friends? Could be absolutely fine or could be an embarrassingly bad idea -- much safer to find out in the privacy of your own home.
liveaboard15 1,293 Posted July 6, 2022 My plan said no caffeine for i think a month post op. I still had it. Only in the form of the Premier Protein coffee shake that has caffeine in it. I had no issues. The milk tho may cause issues. My paperwork said to take lactaid pills for those with milk issues. But as someone said. I would test how it goes at home vs being out and having stomach issues.

ShoppGirl 5,035 Posted July 6, 2022 I agree 100%. I didn’t have any issues with any food but some people have intolerances that cause bathroom emergencies that you would much rather have at home. Why risk it.
SleeveToBypass2023 2,677 Posted July 9, 2022 I would try it at home first. If there's an issue, you don't want it to happen out in public with your friends. I have caffeine every day from my Fairlife coffee Protein Shake every morning. Always have, and I've been fine. BUT, I was someone who would drink caffeinated diet soda all day every day, so my body was totally fine with a little caffeine in a shake lol
maxi_maxi 2 Posted August 1, 2022 My Dr said no caffeine for first 3 months as its like a diuretic. Been drinking Decaf and that's been ok. Honestly it's a waste of money me ordering drinks when I go out the time it takes to drink them I never finish themSent from my SM-G990E using BariatricPal mobile app
ShoppGirl 5,035 Posted August 20, 2022 So, what did you decide to do? Hopefully you figured it out and had a great time out with your friends.

Dearjanna 3 Posted October 20, 2022 (edited) My surgeon said no to coffee while healing due to the acidity that could hinder healing. I’m only in my second week post-op but plan on having coffee as soon as it’s safe to do so! Hope you enjoyed your time with friends and hopefully it went well! adding: I am a black coffee kinda girl:) Edited October 20, 2022 by Dearjanna
