No guarantees - weight gain with the lapband

Recommended Posts

Hi

I was banded in Sep 2004 and lost 135 pounds to get to a normal BMI (just). I had a slip diagnosed in September this year and had my band repositioned. Both times i have had a fill since then I have had to go back to get some Fluid out because I was too tight. So I am feeling a little scared of going back for more fill. Plus I don't want to see my fill Dr because I have now gained over 50 pounds and I feel embarassed. I just can't stop eating - I know it's emotions. But I thought the band would help with the regain like everyone says.

Hi Josie, I'm 42 also. I was moved to respond because no matter how we have lost weight, there is that horrible embarrassment when we see someone and we've gained weight back. Especially if the last time we looked great, get all that attention and kudos, then see 'em a year later, much heavier. Total bummer. But I agree with Jack, this is our life, everyone has setbacks. Funny thing is, you don't know what setbacks your lab band fill Dr. deals with, but he/she surely has something in their life that is not right, and they struggle with. I agree with the sentiment, it is not if we will fall that is important, it is what we do when we fall, getting back up is what it is all about. It makes us stronger and it sets an excellent example to the ones around us. Keep on kickin' girlfriend!:clap2:

Sometimes it can be tricky to find the right fill after a slip. When you slip the scar tissue is pulled, stretched, and sometimes ripped. New adhesions are often times formed. For a variety of reason the fill is tricky, you just have to hang in there and keep working with your doc to find what works for you.

You can do this, you know you can. You have already done it. Don't let this get more out of hand than it already has, get in there and work with your doc and get it done!! It's totally doable and you know that!! We are all here for you.

I say .. grab a hold of those 50lbs before they become 75 or 100.

Honestly, as much as we'd like to think our surgeons and doctors think of us .. they rarely do.

We are one in a group of thousands of patients they see. Trust me, you'll be fine.

AND if he DOES say something (by looking at your weight last time in your chart and noticing the increase) I'd say something like "well, duh - that's why I'm here .. I want to get this under control" - he can't argue with that ;)

Josy, if you have truly gained 50 lbs you really need to go back into your surgeon. Do you PB often at your fill level? Chances are you need another fill. I'm sorry I can't help more. Restriction is key. That and dealing with your emotions. Good luck.
