Hi

I have been having nonreactive hypoglycemia at least I believe so. I will eat Protein without carbs and immediately drops in less than an hour. The lowest I have dropped is 52 but I have needed to go to the hospital to get sugar IVS. I am not previously diabetic but I occasionally have had issues with low blood sugar in the past. My surgery was on June 17 so I don't know what my options are in dealing with this. The hospital suggested I meet with an endocrinologist any ideas?

I would definitely talk to your surgeon and your PCP and see what they say. You might need a referral to an endocrinologist .

Yea. I would guess that’s something your Primary would handle. I’m sure that like anything else you just have to learn how to work around it. If I were you I would schedule with my PCP but if your plan allows, go ahead and make an appointment with an endocrinologist as well because their wait list for a new patient is probably going to be months so if the PCP also says you need to see one you will already have an appointment. Just don’t forget to cancel in advance if you don’t need it.

I've had reactive hypoglycemia for the last 4-5 years. Definitely talk to an endocrinologist. I got a prescription for the Libre 2 wearable device that allows me to monitor my sugar levels in real-time. The Libre will notify you when your blood sugar is dropping or spiking. You'll learn which foods trigger low blood sugar soon enough. For me, it's sushi and alcohol or any high-carb food.

Definitely see your GP about this & getting a referral to an endocrinologist. Hopefully some if it could be temporary because you’re likely still on a pretty restricted diet but better to be sure.

I have occasional drops (did pre surgery too). I try to take an electrolyte drink with me if being active (used to take one with me every day the first few months after surgery). At home I grab some fruit. Had a drop when doing an early morning pre Breakfast food shop. Should have seen me rifling through the grocery bags in the back of my car trying to find the blueberries while trying to remain upright.

I also developed Reactive Hypoglycemia about a year ago (I probably had it longer, just didn't realize) I wear a Libre CGM and have discovered it reads a bit lower than my one touch meter. I have been following The Glucose Godess for tips on how to eat without creating a huge spike and a deep drop. I feel like so much food is out of my reach now as almost everything causes a spike. I see an endo for this issue and strive to keep my spikes under 150. I have heard this can be reversable, but not sure if this is true.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
